One of the reason I think Clara is the only "real" female character in the moffat era is how her career as a teacher helps building the character.

I mean, look at the others. Amy being a kissogram is simply disgusting. I have nothing against the job itself(my favorite character of all time catwoman is a sex worker). But moffat only sets her as a kissogram for one episode and all its aim is about the camera rolling over karen gillen's sexy lap. As for river song, well, we all know how much of an archaeologist and adventuress she actually was(zero percent perhaps comparing to bernice summerfield or charley). As for bill, well, as the first openly queer character in whoniverse (but we all know ace is bi so) of course i love her, but her personal life can be written so much better than how it actually was.

But look at how clara being a teacher shape her as a character as well as her relationship with twelve. It has the same effect as rose being a shop girl, Martha being a doctor and donna being a temp in character building.
