SUMMARY: He still wasn’t sure if Steve was real. They were angry at first, the masked faces with their scalpels and drills and hot, hot metal, when they realized their plans were all for nothing, but then took great glee in telling him how his best friend was dead. Dead and frozen and probably eaten by polar bears.

CONTENT WARNINGS: This does include a character experiencing symptoms of PTSD and depression and the aftermath of torture. Nothing is explicitely said but it is implied.

This is pure wish fullfillment for myself. The Avengers: Doomsday trailer came out a few days ago and this after Steve's teaser trailer I grasped for every straw from speculations and rumors available and ran away with them to do with what I wanted.

I admit, I'm not in the fandom from the beginning but 8 years ago I did not expect that after this time I would still think about these two boys every day with my throat tight and heart beating fast🥺❤

Bucky sitting. On the floor. Organizing his knives: "I was dropped...."

Sam slightly horrified: "I......."

Bucky: "and I've been around Steve most. Of my life. That's the result of my stupidity. His stupidity rubbed off onto me"

     Steve had known Bucky long enough to be well aware of when the man wasn’t ‘fine’. The forced smile, the dark as hell eyebags, the far away look in his gaze--Bucky was far from fine. “You aren’t fine.” He noted, but didn’t press, didn’t want to ostracize Buck by pushing him too far out of his comfort zone. “I got plenty of sleep last night. Unlike someone else. I don’t need any more sleep.” Not strictly true, but he’d breeze past it for a moment.

‘Well first of all, it’d be Barnes and Rogers, its alphabetical, but I’m up for it if you are? It could be interesting.’ and Bucky decides then that whatever happens in the next few weeks, win or lose at the Olympics, the smile Steve gives him when he agrees is worth it.”
