Sandylion Stickerland - Care Bears Halloween Stickers
TBTTCH: my landlord rings me up saying that actually I can move to my new flat right away, he'll be round with the keys in the morning, + Oh By The Way I'm bringing my strapping grandkids to move your furniture; my sister suddenly gets the week off work and offers to come stay to help me settle in- I join her on her streaming one night and get to play animal crossing with her. Mum, when picking us up for Christmas, comes to my favourite local flea market+gets me an antique copper candle snuffer
anyway this made me cry bc it’s so good. it’s the best thing that could happen. the nearly-erotic fantasy of not having to move your own stuff out of and into a flat.
Hi! Sorry if this is a silly question, but is there a reason behind your caption 'tomorrow's a day off for them' for your latest acnh art? 🌞 It sounds like it might be referencing an event or update maybe, but I can't figure out what it would be 😅 anyway, it's lovely art, thank you for sharing!
Ah it didn’t mean anything special haha, just meant that the illustrations will be posted tomorrow. However due to the NFT mess going around, I’m withholding and will not post them ‘til it’s calmed down. XP
I hate having my art reposted and especially monetized (unless I’ve given permission).
Hey! :) Loving all your Witcher musings haha. Got any fic recs? I'm a glutton for found family & h/c :) no worries if not, hope you're having a good day!
hmm *scrolls through AO3 history*
Two Halves of a Whole: daemon AU daemon AU daemon AU *vibrates*
To Sleep Perchance To: “Jaskier gets kidnapped and tortured. Geralt comes to rescue him.Except it’s not quite that simple.” linking this one bcos you said you like h/c and it’s Very Good but be warned it is HARDCORE h/c, emphasis on the h.
Honey You’re Familiar: “Jaskier,” Geralt squeezes his hand tight between his own and Jaskier’s focus is pulled back by the commanding tone, “answer the question.”“Geralt,” Yennefer admonishes, “he might not even remember who you are.”
& that’s all for now!

Thank you so much! I do my best 🥰💕
Hi! I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on rituals - I'm very much in the same boat vis a vis using witchcraft and creating own meaning, intuitively, but would love to learn more about this more widely!
Hi there!
So I studied ritual as part of working on my thesis. My degree is in theatre, so it was through the lens of performance studies, which actually in part grew out of anthropology. One of the works I had to study extensively is a book called Between Theatre and Anthropology by Richard Schechner. I wouldn’t really recommend reading it for leisure unless you really like academic reading for some reason, and Schechner worked with anthropologists like Victor Turner (also important) in like, the 60s, so just be aware some of the content is.... dated, to say the least. It’s more useful for performance studies than anything else tbh.
However there are some really important concepts that I learned from there that I can try to break down for you really fast. (Schechner didn’t originate a lot of these concepts, for the most part, but expanded on things anthropologists knew).
The first (and arguably most important) is liminality. You’ve probably heard of liminal spaces before, and it means a space that is in-between one place or another. Rituals and performances are both liminal spaces that are framed by times, identities, and actions.
Rituals are liminal because formal, big-level rituals like weddings or graduations, take you from one social status to another. (From single to married, undergraduate to graduate). They achieve liminality literally just because we make it so - we choose to take time to make them happen, we make it a special date, get dressed up in special clothes or costumes or whatever else etc - and it puts them in a place that is separated from the motions of daily life. It can get more complicated than that the deeper you go, but that’s the basics.
But there are of course smaller rituals, not all of which dramatically change your social status, state of being, identity, etc. I personally think that the smaller rituals are just as important as the larger ones for a reason that Schechner explains in the book using the example of method actors who end up being emotionally affected by a role to the point where it affects their behavior in real life (which isn’t necessarily healthy). Basically, if an actor hasn’t had a “cool down” period after an intense role or performance, they end up walking around with all this leftover baggage that slips into their daily life bc they haven’t completely mentally stepped out of that liminal space. Over a period of months, weeks, sometimes years, this can take the actor mentally and behaviorally really far from where they started the first performance in Point A if they have repeatedly not done a good job of “stepping out.” (This is why some actors in really tough roles can enter really dark mental health states and in some cases even hurt themselves! It’s not good!!!!! It’s unfortunately badly-employed method acting and method acting really isnt what people think it is anyways but that’s a side rant).
But I think that we can use small, repeated rituals to shape this weird effect to our advantage, and that’s where the witchcraft comes in for me. If you employ this consciously and positively, you can make gradual changes in your own thinking and relationships with the world around you. A couple times a week, as part of my healing process, I was taking ritual baths that weren’t totally altering my identity, but were nonetheless set apart from daily life and putting me in a liminal, ritual space where I got to decide what I wanted out of the experience and actions, follow through on those actions, and reap feelings or results. Over time, it helped redevelop my self-love and confidence.
Basically the best way to make a ritual a beneficial and meaningful experience is to say “fuck it i do what i want” and choose what you want to happen. For me, this means that sometimes I talk to god/goddesses/gods/spirits even if i’m not particularly believing in them on that day, because while I’m in the ritual, fuck it, I’m already talking to them, so they’re real for those five minutes damnit! (To explain it in a very abridged version). And that’s often cathartic for me.
So I hope this explains some things from my perspective- if you want to do more learning and reading about these concepts on your own (bc it definitely informed my relationship with my spiritual practice) look up things like ritual in performance studies, anthropological discussions on ritual etc. Start looking at the origins of ritual and why they occur (some animals even do rituals too!) A lot of what you might encounter will probably be more academic in nature, (bc that’s what most of my sources are so unfortunately I don’t think it’d be too worth sharing them) but I am sure there is introductory level stuff out there that gives the gist the way I just did. I quickly googled “liminality performance studies” and “liminal vs liminoid” while writing this just as a refresher and found a couple of short videos on the topic (didn’t watch them all but just watched one for a couple minutes as a refresher).
Ultimately like what I said earlier is that the most important personal takeaway from this is that when it comes to ritual, you decide what you put in and therefore what you get out. Not always physically (probably won’t be able to pull off a ritual to make your hair blue unless it involves some actual blue hair dye) but definitely from a mental and social place.
Hope this makes sense! Let me know if you have any other questions ✨
Ooh thanks for the nonverbal witchcraft post, have been looking forward to reading it!! Really appreciate everything you put the time into creating and compiling :) particularly those inclusive of chronic conditions both similar to your own experience and different. Hope you're having a good day with manageable symptoms!
Thank you for this! I was feeling a bit nervous about finally hitting the publish button because there’s always something I’ve missed, but decided it was time!
I really appreciate your kind words, and hope the same for you! 🥰
(Here’s the post for anyone who missed it - I just published it!)
