Полевой скетчбук: День 14 / Travel Sketchbook: Day 14
Рабочие всё время копошились, машины гудели, и за этим было приятно наблюдать. Ходить под домами на ножках — будто гулять под живыми бетонными существами.

Prehistoric Alpine Stilt Houses
Alpine stilt houses are a unique and fascinating aspect of prehistoric architecture in the Alps, which provide valuable insights into the lives and culture of the ancient communities. The houses were built by prehistoric communities living in the alpine regions of Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland.

Cormac Phalen (@archy_type) doodles a cool #penandink #architecturedrawing of a stilthouse perched atop a stone cliff hidden amongst some dark foliage. Unlike all of Cormac’s other stilt-supported structures, it appears that we could access this precarious wooden tower via an apparent hastely constructed ladder. • Speaking with Cormac about this uncharacteristic choice, he explained that his real world job of drawing actual buildings as an architect must have leaked into his sketchwork… first he adds some emergency egress to his driftwood domiciles, then the local architecture review board requires him to screen the neighbors’ yards from view with some dense vegetation. I think that the ladder is a nice little addition because, to be honest, my ropeless rock climbing skills are not the best and I would not want to fall to an almost certain death. So a ladder would most certainly make that climb safer… right? Maybe? • As for the vegetation, it’s just got a cool sort of planned randomness to it. Like Cormac had some idea about where he wanted the plants to grow into and let his pen act as the fertilizer to allow those vines, branches and leaves to spread out around the stilt house in a very natural, organic looking manner. • Love the realistic textures of the wood planks (as always), the shape and design of the rocky outcrop is great, and the small bit of vertical line hatching helps to shade the stone while also making it appear a bit taller and thinner than it actually is. Another great one, Cormac! :::::: #stilthouse #wildwood #wilderness #rockclimbing #architecture #architecturaldesign #ladder #woodgrain #woodworking #woodplanks #vines #adventuring #arqsketch #blacklines #blackworks #bouldering #designsketch #doodling #fantasyart #iblackwork #inkdrawing #landscapeart #pendrawing #rockclimbing #surreal #tower #niceview #archy_type [Original Post: https://www.instagram.com/p/BiDo8pfHq0o/; Artist: @archy_type]

"A House on Stilts"
Many Melungeon families lived high up on steep mountain ridges, because of this, a common archetype of houses you'll see are stilt houses. My grandparents had a house on stilts when they lived on Black Mountain, and the cows and chickens would graze and roam around under the front porch.
