Philmont Day 4: Monday, July 31, 2017. Monday was the official start to all the activities at the Training Center. Introductions of the faculty and the courses being taught, group photos, and for the Silverados (spouses or older kids of faculty and participants) it was the time for us to choose the fun things we want to do for the week. We had choices from playing with crafts, taking tours, half day hikes, all day hikes, horseback riding, shotgun, and even an all day whitewater raft trip on the Rio Grande!! So much to do, so little time!! I tried to mix it up a bit... I have some crafts, horseback riding, wood lathe work, and a couple of hikes scheduled, oh and candlemaking. I started the first half of my candles on Monday afternoon at a little shop in Cimarron with a group of about 7 folks. It was quite interesting and fun! After all was done, and first day of class was behind them, John, Joe and I drove into town to have dinner at the St. James (and maybe a glass or two of wine). We took Joe on the quick tour of this Historic Landmark that has been on a few national shows about paranormal activity, as there is a room there that is believed by many to house a ghost. TJ's Room is even padlocked shut, I guess to keep the ghost inside??! (I always thought the can ooze through walls and under doors... but, whatever. Anyway, this is a great place filled with great stories about cowboys, bank robbers, and gunslingers...oh yeah, and a ghost! If you're ever in Cimarron, NM, stop and take a quick tour... or better yet, stay for the night, just remember you'd have to share a bathroom with all the other guests there!
