summer,, for the first day of stobin month!!
i've got the best friend in this place (and i'm holding on)
happy birthday @withacapitalp I hope you have the best day ever and enjoy this little fic about Stobin being the best! Also partially written for Stobin Month hosted by @lavenderstobins The prompt for this one is 'Drive' wc: 1.6K+ | rated: G Read on ao3
Robin’s never been fond of her birthday.
Steve’s heard her rants enough times to know that she’d rather treat the day like any other and not think about how she’s made another trip around the sun, taking her one step closer to her ultimate demise. About how birthdays put unnecessary pressure on the birthday person and the guests and how no one is ever 100% satisfied with the day so why even bother to begin with? And don’t even get her started on the birthday song tradition.
He gets it. More than most do.
But, he’s also not going to let his platonic with a capital P soulmate ignore her eighteenth birthday. Not when she’s lucky she even made it to eighteen and definitely not when she’s dragged him out on his own birthday just a few months ago refusing to let him wallow in his own birthday woes.
Robin’s more stubborn than Steve is though, so he’s had to get creative. He knows she hates surprises, but it’s the only way this plan of his is ever going to work. Besides, he knows she’s going to love it. Sure, she might grumble and panic a bit at first, but that’s just Robin being Robin at this point. He wouldn’t expect anything less.
In hindsight, he probably should have given her a bit more information about what he was planning besides asking her if she’d like to drive around with him today. Probably a lot more insight judging by the ratty-looking pajama pants and his threadbare Hawkins Swim team shirt she stole from his closet back in ’85 she’s wearing as she heaves herself into the passenger seat of the Beamer.
“That’s what you’re wearing for your birthday drive?”
stobin month: round two is nearly upon us! here’s this year’s prompt list :)
i don't need a lover, i just need a friend
written for @strangerthings-a-side day 6: QPR and stobin month!
Summary: “Robs,” Steve said as soon as she picked up. “I think I love you.”
“I love you too, Dingus,” she responded automatically. “Why are you calling? Aren’t you out with Eddie?”
“Yeah,” he responded. “He just told me about — have you heard of queerplatonic relationships?”
“No,” she said slowly. “Should I have?”
“I think we’re in one,” he told her.

This ain't the summer of love
Platonic Stobin month day 1: Summer Rating: G | WC: 448 | Tags: Season 3, Starcourt aftermath, mentions of canon violence, slight angst ao3
Robin had three things planned for the summer before her senior year. Get a shitty job, save up for college (or a car, depending on if the scholarships came through for school), and stay on top of her summer reading list.
There was a secret fourth option– flirting with an actual girl– but that was a secret, and something she wouldn’t tell anyone else about if they asked.
Scoops Ahoy was part of her Grand Summer Plan.
Steve Harrington was not. Steve Harrington, with his stupid hair and his bad pickup lines, his brood of kids and all of that bitchy nerdiness that she hadn’t expected from King Steve. Not that he was still the King, hadn’t been in a while. There were just all these facets that kept surprising her. He was genuinely fun, and he was smart even if it was in ways different from her own booksmarts.
And he was so fucking brave. Every time the Russians had come into the room he’d drawn attention to himself and away from her. He had taken the beating, the drugging, he had taken the brunt of it all to protect someone who hadn’t even really liked him until recently.
Robin had a feeling that even if she had hated Steve, he still would’ve taken the brunt of it. He would’ve let them hurt him again, and again, and again, to protect her. Not for some bullshit chivalry, but because Steve Harrington was the best fucking person that Robin had ever met, and she loved him.
Somewhere between escaping the Russians, and Back to the Future, and coming out to him while they leaned against a public toilet, she’d gone from just liking him to loving him.
It didn’t hit her until after, though. When the mall was burning down around them and the kids were all there with their families, and it was just the two of them left to limp off into the night.
It didn’t hit until they sat with each other through a shower, until they were dressed, and until she was watching Steve while he slept to make sure his chest would rise with his next breath because she couldn’t breathe until he did.
Maybe it was the trauma, or maybe it was the fact that this was the first person she had ever trusted with the knowledge of who she really was, but there would be no getting rid of her now.
Loving Steve Harrington never would have made her list before, but as she finally let herself fall asleep with her head on his shoulder and her arm gingerly around his chest, she knew that it was going to stay there.
stobin month day 3: drive

A Cosmic Summer

Okay, so according to her calculations Robin is pretty sure it's roughly a bajillion degrees today. Sweat seems to be pouring out of every inch of her, bangs stuck to her greasy forehead. Glancing at Steve, she notices he isn’t faring much better, his hair shoved in a cap, poorly shading him from the sun, his cheeks are red and his breaths are shallow.
Eddie and Nancy came strolling back outside not a care in the world that Hawkins is actively melting. Steve and Robin catch each other’s eyes, Steve makes a “what the fuck” gesture towards their respective (and sweat free) partners.
Robin gives a huge shrug with her eyebrows shooting up into her damp hairline. While distracted she doesn’t notice Nancy coming over until the coldest can of Coke is pressed to her inner thigh.
Robin lets out a guttural yelp and tries to get as far away from her girlfriend as possible with the limited room the chair offers. “Nancy Francine Wheeler! In the wise words of one of the gremlins we appointed ourselves to look after, I dump your ass!”
Nancy chuckles before pouting, “Would a kiss make it better, Chicken?” She starts putting sweet, cool kisses right where she placed the can, ignoring the eyeroll Robin gives at the nickname.
