A/N: Welcome to my first official Eric Delko piece. I do love a good meet-cute, and what better than one with a little mishap? A Fluffcember 2025 prompt response.

Lunch outside sounded like the loveliest prospect.
The day couldn't have been more perfect for Miami. Clear skies, not a raincloud in sight. The temps weren't oppressive with humidity, and a breeze helped to even cool the sun's rays a bit. Some shade was all you'd need, and you'd found plenty outside the little bistro you'd chosen to eat at.
You didn't even mind the occasional bird or squirrel that edged closer as you ate. No, they'd grown used to the presence of humans in their little parts of the world. Sometimes, those same humans would share bits of food with them.
Maybe that should've been your first clue though.
One gull in particular seemed quite eager for a taste of your sandwich.
As much as you tried to ignore its valiant efforts, you weren't prepared for its quick attack. One moment your sandwich sat, half-eaten, in front of you. The next you were staring at the empty paper that had wrapped it.
You couldn't even think to react, possibly chase down the thief.
No, you ended up just staring still, longingly, at the paper.
"Got you, too? One got me last week."
"I was going to save that for later," you mumbled, keeping your head down.
It wouldn't do to let this stranger see the very much unwanted tears blurring your eyes. His voice alone sounded so nice, and you just knew he'd be handsome. That'd be just your luck, too. Having a nice guy come upon at this most inopportune moment and see you in such a shocked and blubbering state.
"Ah, man," the man said, his voice close to pitying in your humble opinion, "that really sucks."
"Yeah, but I'll survive. At least, I've already got some leftovers at home."
As if to prove it, you gave yourself a mental shake and quickly swiped at your cheeks. Thankfully, you hadn't actually released any tears, so you were safe from that extra bit of humiliation.
When you finally met the man's eyes, you inhaled and nearly forgot to breathe at the same time. It'd been a long time since a pair of deep brown eyes had the ability to sweep you off your feet as his did. You could honestly say it'd been a long time since any color on any man had achieved such a feat.
Yet, this man's promised to haunt your dreams later that night.
Paired with his dark hair cropped close and his tanned skin, you had little doubts this man could turn heads. Especially when his lips curved up into a smirk that was both flattered and flattering at the same time. It simply wasn't fair a man like this could be walking the streets, especially when he's certain to be stealing hearts from men and women alike.
He must've seen something he liked because he leaned over the other side of your table. His hand ran over his head as he asked, "Since I can't arrest the culprit, maybe I could buy you a replacement. If you're interested, that is."
"Only if you'll join me," you said, surprising yourself as the words slipped out after a moment of thought.
"I'm Eric, by the way."
You gave him your name and your order when he asked.
He returned within minutes, carrying both your new sandwich and something for himself.
Over the next half-hour or so, you learned more about him and he you. Before you could head back to work, Eric made sure to get your number. He wanted to take you out soon, and he even sent a text soon after saying the same.
Who would've thought an errant gull would've changed your life as it did?
