Sometimes you get so used to scientific procedures being complicated that you forget that you can do cool things like collect plant cells with nothing but clear nail varnish and sellotape*

So here're some plant cells I was looking at earlier :D

The inner circles are the stomata (holes in the underside of the leaf used for gas exchange) and the thicker outer circles are the guard cells (open and close stomata to control gas exchange).

*microscope also needed because they're small and you can't see them otherwise

Guys my proposal got accepted by a program thats highly competitive and got the funding confirmed hollly molly nevery kill yourself !! This is genuinely insane because after this project I get to make a research paper with my name on it.... my goodness. Here's some photos from the research im doing that looks like art <3

These are stomata!! Stomata are pores that facilitate rhe exchange of carbon required for photosynthesis in a plant.

Image on left is Psidium guajava and the image on the left is Eucalyptus robusta. Just look at how different the shape is.... plants are so awesome.

In a study published in Nature Communications, researchers have deciphered the molecular mechanism that regulates the rhythmic movements of stomata throughout the day. Stomata consist of two paired guard cells (GC) and the pore between them, the size of which depends on the swelling or shrinking of the cells, hence increasing or decreasing the stomatal aperture. Optimal stomatal apertures are determined by the integration of different environmental and internal factors. In general, closing occurs in the dark and under water stress in response to the stress hormone ABA (abscisic acid) to prevent water loss, whereas light induces stomata opening to allow CO2 uptake and O2 release during the day.

These tiny “mouths” in the picture are stomata, the pores on plants’ leaves that allow plants to “breathe”. Plants need to take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Stomata facilitate gas exchange in photosynthesis by letting these gasses in and out of the plant tissue. Plants are able to open and close their stomata, which is important since water vapour also escapes via the stomata. Closed stomata help prevent the plant from drying out. These images are from my undergraduate research project which focused on the molecular signals controlling stomata opening and closing. These picture are the epidermis of Arabidopsis thaliana peeled off and seen under a light microscope.

Was just watching a video about a river that flows on the surface half its course, and underground through caves the other half. This picture is a part of it that fills up when the weather is wet enough. Those toothy rocks surround a hole that goes down over a hundred feet to the cave! It's called a swallow hole!

Since I have the Locked Tomb brain rot, I was instantly like "oh yeah, the stoma." Which made it even creepier. I though I would share that (frankly unpleasant) feeling with you fine people.
