It had been 3 hours since you'd seen him last.
After his friend alerted him of work needing to be done, Changbin apologized before excusing himself. He looked irritated but promised to make it up to you after he finished up with these customers. He muttered something about "mother fuckers always late except the one time you need them to be" as he jogged down the stairs, making you giggle.
You waited in his room for a few minutes before leaving the money you owed him on his bed, and sending him a text that you were going to head home. You weren't sure how long he was going to be, and it was already getting late. Even while working with customers, he still organized for his friend to drive you home.
When you texted him a thank you for the ride, he replied before you could put away your phone.
"I know my baby lungs doesn’t like to take the train at night." was what the text said. ‘My baby lungs’, huh?
The only thing you could think about the entire ride home was him. You'd always found him attractive and toyed with the idea of spending time with him for reasons other than copping, but never seriously considered it. He was someone who sold something you wanted to buy. That was it and that was all it should be. Trying to make it more than what it was would complicate your relationship unnecessarily. If things didn't work out, you'd have to find another weed guy and you'd never met a dealer as professional as he was. Plus, he was also just a genuinely good guy. Always generous, always gracious, and ever the gentleman. You two weren't even friends technically, but he still always treated you with a level of care that warmed your heart. You didn’t want to lose him, even if the relationship you two had was difficult to describe.
You were 99% sure you said goodbye to Jisung when he dropped you off, but you were too concerned with your new dilemma regarding his friend. There was a chance you could lose the best drug dealer you’d ever had but on the other hand, you might actually be able to go out on a date with someone nice.
A buzzing sound came from your purse that you’d tossed onto the floor of your living room. You were too focused on putting on your pjs after your shower to notice the first few vibrations, but fished your phone out of the bag on the fourth.
╰┈➤ INCOMING CALL FROM: binnie 💨
You felt your heart jump into your throat. You weren't ready for this. You weren't sure how you wanted to move forward with him yet. You didn't want to rush into anything, but you didn't want to miss his call either. You took a deep breath and swiped the answer button.
He didn't answer immediately. You heard what sounded like clothes brushing up against the phone, some muttered curses between mumbling lips and clenched teeth, before the voice of a slightly out of breath Changbin came through your phone speakers.
"Oh hey." he said in a comically nonchalant tone. You laughed out loud. "Hey, you okay over there?"
"Oh, I'm fantastic." he answered quickly.
What you hadn't seen was the wrestling match that had just occurred for the phone Changbin was currently talking to you on. Jisung refused to listen to his friend complain about being interrupted any longer. He had dialed you up on Changbin's phone and locked himself in the bathroom right up until the moment you picked up. Once you did, he unlocked the door assuming Changbin would have mercy on him since you were on the phone, but he assumed wrong.
You heard a door close on his end of the line. It seemed like he just entered his room and laid on his bed by the sound of bed springs squeaking.
"So, what's u- Oh shit did I forget to pay you?" you questioned.
"No, no, you're good," He snickered. "What are you doing up so late?"
"Wondering why Changbin is calling me so late." you responded, fairly impressed with how quickly you recovered from a question you did not want to answer truthfully.
"Just thinking about how we got interrupted."
You didn't expect him to address it. Part of you was worried that you'd carry on like nothing happened. As much as you wanted to think carefully about how you continued your relationship with Changbin, the idea of pretending it never happened was not one you were fond of.
"We did, didn't we? Can't have that."
"No we cannot." you could hear him smiling over the phone. "What are you doing tomorrow?"
"Nothing at all." You responded as casually as you could.
"Oooh okay. What are we doing?" You questioned, already picking out your outfit in your head.
"Besides smoking? We could watch a movie, eat some food. I'm pretty sure I got a bottle at the house if you wanna drink somethin'...Cool with you?"
Now you were the one smiling. "Hell yea. Just let me know what time."
"Will do. I'll call ya tomorrow." He responded before hanging up the phone.
You sighed, letting your phone fall to the floor as you tried to calm your racing heart. You wanted to think this through. You really did but couldn’t help jumping at another opportunity to see him.
Shrugging, you sat up to turn off the light of your bedside lamp. This could fuck up your weed supply, but the seemingly permanent smile on your face was proof he was worth the risk.
You tried your best to not think about your plans with Changbin for the entire day but it was very difficult. You nearly jumped across the room every time your phone buzzed with a notification. Many of your coworkers had clocked that you were excited for something, and a few observant ones had surmised that it was a someone that had you so jumpy. Luckily the day concluded before you had to give anyone too many details.
You rushed home, showered and got dressed in record time. You had an hour before Changbin was going to pick you up but you had finished getting dressed, doing your make up, and your hair way faster than you anticipated; your obvious excitement guiding you. Your phone finally rang with a call coming from your desired contact as you filled your bag with the essentials, including an overnight bag. A little presumptuous? Yes, but better have it and not need it, then need it and not have it, right?
“I’m out front.” Changbin spoke.
You leaned down a bit to see his familiar black truck outside your apartment. The sight making you giddy all over again.
“Coming now.” you answered quickly, throwing your bag over your shoulder and heading down stairs.
He was on his phone, leaning against the passenger side of his vehicle. Dressed casually in a black T-shirt and jeans but you’d be lying if you said you’d seen anyone look as good in a T-shirt as he did. As much as he liked to tease you for staring, he always seemed to wear tight shirts whenever you were around. He looked up as he heard your approach, sliding his phone into his back pocket.
“So all I had to do was ask you out on a date and suddenly you’re on time?” he asks, cocking an eyebrow at you.
“Nice to see you too.” you answered, finally reaching him as he opened the door for you.
“All I had to do was let you take me on a date and suddenly you’re opening doors for me?” you mocked once you were both seated.
Changbin gasps exaggeratedly in mock betrayal. “I always open the door for you!” he insists. “What kind of man do you think I am?”
You tap your finger on your chin pretending to have trouble recalling him ever doing so in the past. “Hmmm I don’t know… I feel like this is the first time..”
He did open doors for you. Very often actually. But it's more fun to tease him, so you do. At this point you wonder if he’s aware that you’re teasing, but it doesn't matter. By the playful grin he’s wearing, he seems to enjoy it just as much as you do.
He pulls up to his apartment quickly as you agree to disagree. You were both so engrossed in your bickering, you’d gotten there sooner than either of you expected. You laughed loudly as he put the car in park and rushed over to your side to open the door for you, offering up a very sarcastic “Right this way.” You curtsied before stepping out of his car and taking his outstretched hand which he held until you got to his front door where he reluctantly let go to look for his keys.
Once inside, you commented on the unusual darkness. All the lights were off, but you could see a faint blue-ish glow coming from the living room. You followed the dim light to see he’d set up a projector hooked up to his laptop displaying some random streaming site with the search results for “Ghibli '' displayed onto a large white sheet he’d hung up on his wall. He also had some popcorn and candy set out in bowls, his rolling tray with a small pile of weed next to four already rolled blunts, and some blankets to make his make-shift movie theater more comfy.
Your silence spurred him to speak, suddenly feeling very vulnerable as you took in all he’d prepared for the two of you.
"I remember you mentioning that you liked those movies and I've never seen them so..." he shifted nervously from one foot to the other, avoiding eye contact and inadvertently letting you get a good view of the redness creeping up his neck. You decided not to tease him this time, leaning forward and grabbing his arm in a burst of excitement.
“Really? You’ve never seen any of them?”
He grins from ear to ear.
"No- well I saw spirited away when I was really little. Don't remember much apart from the ghost face guy. He was scary as fuck, is he the bad guy? I bet he's the bad guy."
You giggled as he tried his best to summarize the plot from his decade old memory, getting most details wrong.
“No spoilers… but I will tell you that's not his name. Ghost face is the killer in Scream.” You resist the urge to kiss him when his lips pout while he answers you with an “Oooooh”. You’ll give in to that urge next time you feel it, you think to yourself.
You both settle on Spirited Away. The familiar theme plays as you both snuggle up to each other under the blanket. It felt foreign at first. You’d always been comfortable around each other but this was different. This was a date. If he’d invited you on any other day you would’ve stayed on your respective couch cushion, but as soon as you sat down he frowned at you, furrowing his brow insisting it was too cold for to be so far away. You smirked, immediately seeing through his ploy, but sat directly next to him. 10 minutes into the movie and his arm was around you. 20 minutes in and your head was on his chest, delighting in the way his heart sped up a bit when you reached to wipe some popcorn off his shirt. You caught him stealing glances at you every so often. It was usually after something climactic happened on screen, he would turn his head slightly (hoping not to distract you) to catch your reaction. He tried his best to bite back his grin but he couldn’t. You were very entertaining to watch. He would never have guessed that you’d seen this before with the way you reacted to the things unfolding. Laughing wholeheartedly, smiling wide, lifting your head up from his chest to get a better look at the screen at times.
“You like this movie, huh?” he asked, though it didn’t sound like a question.
“Hm?” you asked, only half hearing him.
He shook his head. “Nothing.” He laid his hand on your head to guide you back onto his chest.
You were 10 minutes from the end credits when he got a phone call which he ignored. Then another which he also ignored. By the fourth call, he swore under his breath, apologized for interrupting, and took the call in the hallway.
You didn’t mean to eavesdrop but you are pretty sure Changbin doesn’t know what whispering is. You could only hear half of the conversation but it painted the picture clearly enough.
“What are you talking about?”
“Oooooh fuck… I completely forgot.”
“I know, I know… I’m.. I’m just busy right now. Can’t you jus- … alright alright. I’ll call you back.”
You waited patiently as your date trudges back into the room looking like a kicked puppy. You chuckled.
“I’m an asshole.” he says, making you laugh.
“And why are you an asshole?”
He hung his head impossibly lower. “It's Jisung’s friend’s birthday and he’s having a party tonight. Ji and I are supposed to be the designated dealers there and I completely forgot.”
He trudged his way over to you collapsing onto the couch in a way that let his head gently drop in your lap.
“I’m sorry, we’re always getting interrupted.” he said into the fabric of your shirt, wrapping arms loosely around your middle. You chuckled brushing strands of hair from his face when he pulled away to give you his attention.
“It's my fault for liking someone so popular.” You said a little less confidently than you meant to. Even though you were on a date, neither of you made any kind of confession up to this point so your previous statement left you feeling a little exposed.
He peaked up at you, a mischievous glint in his eye. “OooOooooOo you like meEeEe.” he teased in a sing-song kind of way, making you roll your eyes while trying to keep a straight face.
“Not anymore.” you joked pretending to push him off you while he pulled you closer.
“IT MuSt SuCk tO LiKe mE sO mUcH.” he said, echoing your words from the night before.
“I don’t like you anymore, so I wouldn’t know.” you had given up on pushing him and had moved to crossing your arms over your chest and looking away from him as much as you could with him still in your lap.
He giggled, pushing himself off the couch to a kneeling position on the floor beside you. “Aw c’mon I’m sorry” he cooed, trying to coax you to look at him. You turned away from him. “Nope, you were mean to me.” It wasn’t until he started tickling you that you gave in. Minutes later, your tickle fight having concluded, both of you had the same thought while looking at each other. Cheeks red, slightly out of breath from laughing just looking at each other with hearts in your eyes. The thought you shared: I like you so much.
“You should come with me,” he said, breaking the silence. He had tried to pin you down just a moment ago and was still hovering over you. He made no attempt to move away from you as he spoke.
“To the party?” you asked. He nodded. “Is that okay?”
“Yea, why not?” he said, standing up with a shrug. “It's not like it's a black tie event. Just a house party, nothing special.” He answered as he began packing up the snacks, and shutting down the projector along with his laptop.
“But I don’t know anyone… you think the birthday boy will mind?”
“I guarantee he won’t know half of the people there. ” He answered, quickly tidying up the room before running upstairs to grab his weed bag. He came back down, keys in hand and bag on his shoulder.
“I’d like you to come with me, but I could take you home if you want. No pressure either way. We can always do this again. Tomorrow, if you’re free.” He said, extending his hand out to you.
You hadn’t realized you had been smiling until you smiled wider. He was so open about his desire to spend time with you it gave you butterflies.
“I’ll come with you.” You answered, standing up. “As long as you don't mind me being glued to your side the whole time since I don't know anyone."
"Well between you and me..." He says, leaning in close like he's about to share a secret "I kind of have a crush on you so I don't think that'll be an issue."
You beam, leaning in to give him a light peck on the cheek. “Well then let's go!” you spoke, quickly before turning toward the door. You hoped you were quick enough to hide how red you probably were, but knowing him, he’d be able to tell anyway. He read you like a book and you really really hoped he wouldn’t get tired of reading.
A/N: I'm SO SO SORRY that this took almost almost a full year before I finished it but chapter two is done! I'm thinking that this will be a solid 3-4 chapters depending on where I decide to leave things between these lovebirds, but I will do my best to not take a whole fucking year for chapter three lol THANK YOU to any and everyone who still cares about this a year later. Even if you're reading my work for the first time, thank you ♡
