chao's list of fic writing tips
bc someone asked how to get into fic writing if they've never written before and i'm a veteran (re: have been doing this for a decade)
write from your heart. write what you want to write just because, even if there's a million other fics just like it or 0 fics like it. this is the only way to have fun, i promise
READ READ READ. Read books, read fiction, non fiction, fics outside of your fandom, fics inside your fandom. see how other people interpret canon events, learn how some people formulate aus, learn what YOU like.
steal plots. there's no such thing as a unique plot. a lot of my fic plots ive borrowed from books ive read or written. idgaf. it's easier to borrow someone else's plot structure than it is to try and be 100% original. did you read something and wished you thought of it first because you have an idea that would work with that? write it. credit the creator of the og something if you post it.
there's nothing wrong with writing the same thing over and over. don't get hung up on it, people like reading the same thing over and over. if u find your niche in idk..,let me use myself as an example, nick nelson angst fic, write that. it's never that serious that you should branch out onto other things if you don't want.
sometimes you just need to find a song and write until you physically can't listen to the song anymore. this is imperative to the process sometimes.
grammar and spelling mistakes are not that deep, if you're worried, either pick up a manual or if ur brave enough for grammarly, toss the fic in there.
never. ever use AI, it's disingenuous, bad for the environment, and takes away the joy from the creative process. the end product never matters as much as the process no matter how many people on twitter try to make it seem.
doing some research never hurts. reddit is a phenomenal source for this.
just write the smut scene.
if you're not having fun, there's no point <3
