headcanon prompt: gordon, desmond and the other guy (beryl's husband wtf is his name) as kids
lakdhfdsklfhldskfh this is DIFFERENT and i like it
- i feel like fergus got a lot of shit. like not just from their dad - the “you are the oldest so you must protect your little brothers” kind of thing - but from like. literally anyone who started on the other two. gordon and des are both fucking strange and targets for bullies and fergus was always The Normal One and i feel like. idk. it was just imprinted on him very young that they were His Responsibility and he had to like. take any shit anyone else was giving them
- at one point during his youth (read: early 20s), gordon sported a pretty impressive mullet. skulduggery has photographic proof.
- des and fergus did very well in school, but gordon was the class prat and just messed around all the time. the other two used to help him with his homework so that he didn’t get in trouble with their father
- it’s implied that gordon got in with ‘that weird group’ as a teenager, and we know he didn’t meet skulduggery until his first book got published in his twenties, so i feel like gordon was aware of skulduggery before he met him. so it was like. that horrific moment where you realise you just met The Skulduggery Pleasant and hurled on his shoes.
- fergus met beryl in college. she was a lot less unpleasant then and was really passionate about the subject she was studying. it never went anywhere for her, and the career she wanted just sort of. fizzled. she’s bitter as fuck.
- skulduggery has an unfortunate habit of charming women gordon likes. gordon’s ego used to be considerably smaller, but after a while he figured women go for the confident, arrogant type and started imitating skulduggery. it worked for him.
- fergus actually likes melissa a lot, because she settled des. meeting her and wanting to marry her and start a life and a family with her was what finally quashed his interest in all the ‘magic nonsense’, even if he no longer really believed in it at that point
- if he’d apprenticed under someone like skulduggery, fergus could have been Powerful. gordon had no magic at all. and nobody is actually sure about desmond. by the time he was old enough to show signs of magic, fergus had decided to make sure his brothers were kept out of that. so des never got the opportunity to see whether he would’ve had magic
- des was best man at fergus’ wedding. gordon was best man at des & melissa’s, and his best man speech was rambling and vaguely inappropriate
