Every year the largest aggregation of whale sharks worldwide gather off the coast of Isla Mujeres, Mexico. @shawnheinrichs and I discovered this aggregation roughly 14 years ago and have been running trips there ever since! This time of year Loggerhead turtles congregate off the coast of Florida to nest on our beaches. Florida hosts 90% of all the nests from the atlantic loggerhead population. Adults can weigh between 200 and 300 lbs. Females lay an average of 4 clutches of eggs every 3 years between April and September. Each clutch contains roughly 114 eggs. Roughly 600 sea turtles have been killed by the Toxic Red tide this year! We must vote for the environment/clean water in order to fix it! Please help these turtles, all wildlife and people by signing and sharing the petition in my bio! What my small team have discovered isn't a cure all, but it is the only thing in my opinion that can be done immediately to slow down the massive nutrient issue that is feeding both the blue/green algae as well as the toxic Red Tide! For most people seeing a shark while your in the ocean is very scary...for me the simple fact that if we don't do everything we can to save them now, i'm scared to death we won't be able to see them at all! As the apex predators of the ocean, there job is to maintain the health, balance and biodiversity of our oceans! We rely on our oceans for over 50% of the air we breath and 70% of the protein we eat! We must all fight to change the laws in order to protect them! Under present attemps to manage sharks, 80% of open ocean shark species frequently targeted in high seas fisheries are threatened or near threatened with extinction! Red shouldered hawk up close! Birds of prey have always been very attractive and interesting wildlife to observe and photograph! Sadly our species has killed over 50% of our planets wildlife in the last 40 years...in my lifetime! I hope and pray that future generations will not allow this to continue to happen! Nature inspires me daily to do all i can to save this beautiful planets wildlife! Unfortunately by immersing myself in nature for a living, i have seen the destruction, damage and removal of far to much! Please help to end the needless slaughter of our beautiful planets wildlife! The death of Goliath Grouper as a species may happen very soon, if we all don't get out and speak for these majestic friendly creatures! FWC is having hearing to allow you to speak up for these incredible fish! Fisherman say this fish is eating all the fish and they speak in greater numbers than divers so far! Let's change that at these hearings! Science completely disagrees: 1. A 2010 Florida State University research paper found that the Goliath Grouper was still "Overfished and Critically Endangered!" 2. Another research paper by Sarah Frias Torres Ph.D shows that that overfishing not Goliath Groupers is the reason for declining fish and lobster stocks. 3. In 2016 a panel of scientists rejected a stock assessment saying the stocks had recovered, because that survey was li.ited to just one small area. 4. Current analysis of stomach content by University of Florida shows 85% of their diet are crabs and 15% are slow poisonous fish such as puffer fish, catfish and stingrays...not game fish. 5. Florida State University researchers found and published a paper showing that reef fish abundance and diversity is actually higher when goliath Groupers were present. 6. Dr. Chris Koenig studies reveal that the poisonous mercury levels of up to 3.5 ppm far exceed the level of 1.0 ppm where the sale of any fish is prohibited! At .5 ppm the Natural Resourses Defense Council recommends we avoid eating these fish because of the well known documented effects of mercury poisoning. So why in the world would we ever want to allow the slaughter of these sentient creatures? 7. Dr. Silvia Earle says that "killing the Goliath Grouper would actually be killing the growing economic benefits derived from divers who want to see these Iconic animals who are often as curious as us."
