Study Tool #1: Your Phone
People talk a lot about how phones can distract us from quality studying -- and that’s true! When I’m sitting down at my desk for some intensive studying, I generally have my phone on silent and out of my field of vision so I don’t get swept up in texting my friends or scrolling through Tumblr. But, especially if you have a packed schedule like me, your phone can also be your best friend for reviewing throughout your day.
When? I used to feel like I had no time to study. Walking or taking public transport to and from class and extra curriculars took up a big chunk of my day, and I’d end up zoning out or wasting time on my phone. Look for time in your day that’s currently “dead time”: time that’s not dedicated to relaxing, but not productive either. For me that was my commute, but it could also be downtime at work, an awkward half-hour gap between schedule blocks, or the time while you wait for your ramen to cook.
How? Apps like Quizlet let you make flashcards online, and then access them from anywhere. The app is free and super easy to use, and it’s one of my favorite ways to study on my phone. I take notes with Google Docs during class, so after class I’ll pull up the notes I just took on my phone and re-read them as I walk to my next commitment. If you don’t like to take notes online, you can also take pictures of your physical notes with your phone and review them like that!
Free Printable: Prioritize My Study (in each Course)
I remember that when I took the first exam in college, I was really nervous. I did not know how to set priorities. I was like "Do I have to know everything including all of the details? That's way too much!" I studied everything because worrying about what's going to be on the exam. But in reality, you do not need to memorize or understand everything (wasting your time).
Prioritizing my study is critical. This printable sometimes helps me to understand area/topic of my weaknesses and strength (after creating my study notes) and easily to create a study schedule. To be honest, I'm still not sure whether this printable works only me or not, but I really hope this printable help your study effectively.
