~Spangled pt 1~
***Okay, Sooooo Hiya. I did a thing. My friend and I came up with this idea after I sent her a pin on pintrest so I give you PART 1 to Spangled, a Marvel twist on the Disney movie Tangled. Basically, Our Avengers are taking on the roles as Rapunzel, Eugene, Maximus and others. I really hope you all enjoy this as much as I do and I look forward to writing more and I hope you enjoy it!***
James ‘Buchanan’ Barnes was on the run. That wasn’t new. He’d been on the run for years. But often, he didn’t have the people who wanted to capture him directly on his tail. He ran like he life depended on it, because more than likely, it did. He ditched the Hydra agents he’d originally been on this mission with. Granted they had told him to take it back to the base. They may have messed with his brain but they could never take away those pure memories. Sure, he had agreed to steal something for them but when he realized what it was they were stealing, he realized there was something Hydra clearly wasn’t letting him know about his missions.
He still had enough sense to know that the red, white and blue shield belonged to his past best friend, whom was presumed dead. Or so he’d heard. But he refused to believe it.
“Hey! Stop right there!” A voice called from behind him. Cursing, Bucky risked a glance over his shoulder and noticed a man with metal bird wings flying after him. Bucky rolled his eyes and turned back straight just as the man started shooting at him. He silently thanked Howard Stark for making the shield, that he carried on his back the way that Captain America always used to when he wasn’t using it, from the small bit of titanium he’d had because it truly did block everything.
At the last minute, Bucky jumped and catapulted himself around a tree branch, grinning as he landed exactly where he wanted. On the birdman’s back.
“What-Hey-Get off-” The birdman exclaimed. Bucky just grinned and used his metal arm to punch the right wing. It dented easily, which messed with the flight patterns and the two of them crashed to the ground rolling to a stop. The shield had been knocked loose during the swing and once they crashed it rolled violently towards the edge of a cliff. Bucky and the birdman both rolled to a stop before these realized that they needed that shield. Both of them.
Bucky because he refused to fail his mission, he’d seen what they’d done to others when they failed and he couldn’t let that happen to himself. The birdman because he knew that shield didn’t belong in the hands of Hydra, but in the museum where it had originally been.
“Sam! What’s your status?” A voice yelled in Birdman’s ear.
“Now is really not the time, Tony.” Sam exclaimed as he jumped to his feet at the same time as Bucky. “Shit!” he yelled darting for the shield at the same time as Bucky.
Bucky reached the shield first, thanks to his enhanced speed, and he leaped and grabbed the shield, twisting in midair to face Sam. He grinned and saluted him, before he let himself fall down the ravine with the shield.
“Shit. Stark, I need that replacement suit, stat.” Sam pleaded.
“Today is a new day!” Steve exclaimed cheerily, throwing open the window and breathing in a deep breath of fresh air. Scott jumped onto the windowsill, stretching and yawning in the sunlight. “What should we do today?” Steve asked, leaning against the windowsill with his elbows, placing his chin in his hands. Scott pointed outside.
“You know we can’t do that. At least I can’t.” Steve said, moving so he was sitting on the windowsill, scooping Scott into his hands. Scott just crossed his arms and looked up at him upset.
“Why not? It’s not like anyone would even know.” Scott protested. Steve shrugged his shoulders and put Scott on his knee, as he looked out the window.
“I would. I can’t just not follow orders.” Steve explained. Scott sighed. That was Steve, down to a T. Anything he was asked to do, he’d do it with no errors, quickly and efficiently. “Besides, it’s not that bad in here! There’s loads of stuff to do!” Steve exclaimed jumping to his feet and throwing his arms out to the side, wincing when he heard the tiny splat sound his small companion made as he hit the floor.
“Oops, are you okay?” He asked.
“Just peachy.” Scott sighed. Steve stepped around him and made his way further into the tower to find something to do for the day. Scott stayed where he was, staring at the window. He wasn’t stuck here, he had the freedom to leave yet he could never bring himself to leave. Otherwise, Steve would be trapped here alone.
He also knew that if Steve was alone he would be miserable. Having Scott around just lifted his spirits, he was kind of his only friend. By the time Scott had managed to climb back to his feet, he saw Steve was dancing around lost in his thoughts and he smirked to himself. He really had no clue why he was kept here but he knew it was impossible to get him to leave. If Steve was given an order as strict as that he couldn’t break it.
“Steve! I’m home!” Called a voice, from the other room. Steve dropped the book he was holding, not expecting Fury to be home so early. Steve looked around wildly asking without seeing or speaking to Scott to make sure he stayed out of sight. “Steve!” Fury exclaimed, now from the doorway.
“Hi, you’re back early today!” Steve exclaimed, wrapping the man in a hug. Fury patted him awkwardly on the head, and pushed him back.
“Well aren’t you glad to see me?” Fury joked. Steve blushed and nodded.
“Yes, of course, sir! I just...usually you’re gone for hours.” Steve blurted. Scott facepalmed from his little perch behind the flower pot by the window. Steve was great but he was so awkward. Although, having been locked up the majority of his life, it made sense.
“Well, I’m back early, surprise!” Fury exclaimed, grinning hugely and from what Scott could tell sarcastically.
Steve looked happy but Scott knew better. He wanted nothing more than to help his friend out of here. He knew that there was more of a reason that Fury kept him here locked up than just because the world is cruel and violent, besides if anyone could handle cruel and violent it was Steve. Well, physically, emotionally Scott was convinced that people could break him.
He had too pure of a soul, and him being locked up kept him from seeing how others were actually treated in the real world.
“So, I just dropped by real quick to check on you and grab my bag of extra bullets.” Fury was saying.
“Let me get them for you!” Steve exclaimed running for the bedroom closet where Fury kept his weapons. When he returned Fury was growling at the newest painting Steve had added to the wall.
“Steve, what is this?” He asked. Steve followed his finger and took a deep breath. But before he could say anything Fury snatched the bag from him and turned to walk away again.
“The explosions-” Steve began. Fury froze and glanced behind him.
“And why are you so fascinated with them? Explosions are dangerous, Steve.” Fury explained, his voice a bit softer. Steve shrugged his shoulders and held up his pointer finger, pointing to a separate painting he’d done years ago, of a rather graphic war scene he’d read in a book.
“That’s the thing. Normal explosions happen on the ground with contact, but these- They explode in the air, with colors, a normal explosion would only be the colors of fire-” As Steve was explaining, Fury rolled his eyes and continued towards the door.
“I just want to see them just once in person! Please?” Steve pleaded. Fury froze with his hand on the doorknob.
“Absolutely not.” He growled, gripping he doorknob hard enough that the metal bent.
“Why can’t you just let me see them?”
“Because- you know the rules!”
“Just once! That’s all I’m asking for! Why is that such a hard request?!?! I’ve never broken any rules or-”
“You. Will. NEVER. Step. Foot. Outside. Of. This. Tower. Am I clear?” Fury shouted. Steve didn’t give an answer he just stared harder at Fury, who’s glare narrowed even more as he looked down his crooked nose at Steve. “Am I clear, Captain?” Fury demanded, cursing in his head. Hoping Steve wouldn’t notice his choice of words or remember anything. He fought hard to keep his smile away when Steve looked down at the ground defeated, still unremembering.
“Yes, Sir.” He mumbled. Fury scoffed.
“Oh, do speak up. You know how I hate the mumbling!” He snapped. Steve fought the urge to glare at Fury and do something he’d regret and sighed.
“Sir, yes sir!” He saluted, loud and proud. Fury smirked, and he shouldered the bag.
“Good boy, I’ll be back in a few hours.” Fury said, patting Steve firmly on his broad shoulder before he turned and left the tower, locking the door behind him. Steve sighed again and turned to look at his colorful painting.
“I’ll be here.” He whispered sadly.
Bucky really should have thought that plan through more thoroughly. His immediate thought after he jumped off the cliff, with the shield was ‘AHHHHHHHHH.’ It took him a few tries but he finally managed to get the shield back on his back in the midst of his fall. He hit the ground rather hard but it wasn’t anything he felt before. Besides, that kind of fall now wouldn’t break a single bone in his body, thanks to Hydra. He had to admit his landing reminded him of a superhero landing.
There was a sound above his head, and he looked up to see the shadow of the birdman he had just bickered with at the top of the cliff.
“Shit.” Bucky mumbled to himself. He made sure the shield was safely attached to his back this time and he made a run for it. Another one of the enhancements allowed him to run faster. He looked every which way to find somewhere to duck and hide for a second. There wasn’t much, but Bucky thought he could hear the sound of a waterfall somewhere.
There was a grove of rocks to his left or a jungle of vines too his right. He dove for the rocks at first before he realized that with his headstart he’d be able to get farther through the Vine jungle. Besides Birds, always went straight for the rocks to look for prey. Changing his direction quickly Bucky dove behind the first row of vines and stumbled. There were less vines than he’d originally thought there were.
He pressed his back against the rock wall that was behind the vines and held his breath when he heard the birdman land on the rocks.
‘Good call, Buck’ He thought to himself. He waited, holding his breath until he heard the birdman fly away. Bucky didn’t let himself breathe until he was sure the man was gone, yet when he turned to see where the fake jungle of vines had led him, he couldn’t help but gasp, choking on the air that rushed into his mouth. There was a tower hidden in the open, walled in area. There was a waterfall, that would be what he had heard when he was running, to the right of the tower.
He heard the faint sound of the birdman turning back around and Bucky made the quick decision to climb the tower. It wouldn’t be hard, the large stones that made up the outer edge of the towers foundation stuck out enough for him to grip onto it and climb. So, that was exactly what he did. Quickly.
He reached the top fast, thanks to his strength and speed yet as soon as his feet touched the carpeted interior of the carpet all he heard was, “Hyah!” and his vision went black.
