Starting off the new year the right way, 'Halfway There' by ROZES has officially been chosen as the anthem for the 2019 Women's March in NYC. The song empowers and encourages women to tackle their struggles with a brave face and a powerful presence. The soulful and strong vocals makes the song that much more meaningful and a positive influence to the world. It's motivating enough to inspire women and anyone else who gives it a listen.
Gabe Lopez - Imitation of Love
Gabe Lopez has completely taken over our world by storm with his song 'Imitation of Love' and we can't stop bopping along to it. The song is about how the artist knows a lover is bad for him but he still pursues them anyway, saying they're a "good imitation of love." The poppy melody has a way of making the listener fall in love within the first twenty seconds and we can't get it out of our heads. If Lopez' goal was to make us break the replay button, he's definitely achieved just that.
Contrary to the hyped up beat, the lyrics are dejected and expose the artist's true feelings about a past relationship. It seems to slightly uncover the wrongdoings in the relationship and reveal how the artist is accepting the downfall because of it. He sings "If you stopped to see how I felt I wouldn’t need someone else" and "I just lie to myself every night. I need help, I'm alright. I'm alright sinking right down." All of the different elements work and bring the song together into a tune the whole world can jam out and relate to.
Forever X2 - Walk the Ocean
'Walk the Ocean' by Forever X2 is a game changer for the indie-pop genre. The vocals are the perfect combination of electronic accents and breathy notes. The chorus is catchy with an unforgettable melody that was executed brilliantly every time it was sung. The catchy lyrics layered on top of the nifty beat leave the listener wanting to keep pressing replay.
'Fragile' by ZXNA is about the aftermath of a breakup and the process of recovering from it. She sings "There is nothing beautiful about a broken heart" and "I know someday that I will love another." The shift in tempo is meant to represent the slow journey of moving on. The song is emotional and raw and it allows the listener to connect with artist on a vulnerable level.
Remy Styrk is serving some serious Khalid vibes with his single 'In Too Deep'. The song has the right amount of electronic soundscapes to compliment the chilled out beat. As if the song couldn't get any better, he paired it with a catchy melody that was executed perfectly each time. He has a captivating and tuneful way of singing the lyrics that make it impossible not to sing along with him.
'Let Go' by Apollo Mighty is a "contemporary R&B song about desperation and contempt about not being able to be with the one you love," as best described by the artist himself. He sings "I've been all around the world but I'm still stuck on you" and "tell me what I'm supposed to feel. Being in love alone is so surreal." With a song this personal, the passion the artist is putting forth can be felt through every lyric sung and it makes the song that much more meaningful and emotional. The lyrics empty out his thoughts and feelings on the subject and it created a beautiful masterpiece the whole world can listen to.
The song talks about falling in love and the good things it can do to a person. She sings "Is this what it feels like to fall in love?" and "You fix all my pieces." The beat is gentle and laid back, complimenting the breathy vocals and bringing the song together. The gentle electronic soundscapes sprinkled throughout the song are the cherry on top of the song and that's why it's our weekly recommendation for you.
Just when we thought Westover couldn't top their last track, they completely prove us wrong by releasing 'Love Me'. The song talks about the ups and down of a relationship, asking his partner to love him even on the bad days. He sings "love me even when it's raining" and "don't let the clouds come and pull us down." The electro pop soundscapes and smooth vocals work together perfectly to compose a well-crafted tune the listener can't help but love.
