Nyx: Goddess Enjoys Fireworks 

I really enjoy this one because during the Summer I shoot fireworks(legally, with a crew and fire marshal, for concert events in my hometown) with my dad, and this piece was heavily inspired by a particularly amazing show we put off, plus imagine actually having fireworks go off in your hands without hurting you, oh gods that would be the best~

Tonight, I watched Star Trek 2009 accompanied live by the San Diego Symphony at the Marina Embarcadero South. It's cool to watch the movie with a lot of fans -- I figure you'd have to be fans to pay that kind of money, right? So, it's cool with all the people cheering when folks would come onscreen for the first time or when they do something good, etc.

But it's also really cool to hear the music live. You do have a greater awareness of the music when you see the symphony right there in front of you & you see when they stop playing & when they get louder and so on.

John Cho was there. I missed it when he was talking -- I mean, I heard him talking but couldn't really see him because I wasn't in my seat yet (I was still outside waiting for my niece). Of course, since people knew he was there, people cheered whenever he came onscreen, especially the first half of the movie. He did come out again at the end, though he didn't really speak. Not that I could see him anyway.

Next year, the Symphoney is already scheduled to play during Comic Con -- they'll be playing Star Trek: Into Darkness. IDK that I'd go out of my way to come here to watch that, though I did enjoy tonight's experience.

I didn't want it to end, but it had to. I cant even stand on me foot anymore (no kidding) and I'm broke, like... dead broke (31 cents left) Comic-con, you were great, but i had to say that you're ridiculously big i can't even do you within the whole 4 days... but alas, i got some good stuff from there, and lost a bag with some of my stuff ( a signed print by Illustrator Daxiong and a fair amount of free stuff (a LoK poster and and else ;A;)) there's a slim chance i can get them back but that's another story. I'm ready for next year's comic-con, I'm gonna save money so i can get more awesome stuff (they had Bakemonogatary & Nisemonogataricand Rebuild of Eva Blu-Rays ;V;).

And I'm definitely looking forward the next Summer Pops, San Diego symphony concert (last year was Symphony of the Goddesses (Zelda) and this year was Distant Worlds (Final Fantasy) by the way this was this awesome girl cosplaying as Sice but I didn't get myself to take a picture with here ;( more hurtful, she was a dear blogger from here that i admire, and i didn't recognize her ;_;

So, that's it, I'm back to the way i was before: Poor, tired, depressed and tumblr.

Violin

I don't talk about it much (if at all!) on here, but I am a violinist. I have been since I was 8. I majored in music in college for awhile and even when I dropped the major, I still kept playing in ensembles non-stop. Now that I am trying to get into medical school, it seems that playing violin is low on the list of things to do. I've come to terms with the fact that I won't ever be practicing 4 hours a day like I used to. I also know that I won't even always play every week or month. I haven't played since November.

Now that the summer pops schedule is up for my orchestra, I am rejoining (since I had class during rehearsals this spring BOOOOO). Tuning was such a bitch but it was so nice to get that fiddle in my hand. This is the longest I have gone without touching it. It's funny though, it doesn't feel any different and it's as though I never stopped.

Sometimes, periods of no play are refreshing. A profession I admire once quit for one year to simply get a breath of fresh air and explore other interests. She said she came back with a new, refined sense of the instrument. Sometimes that time apart makes you sensitive to things in a way you weren't before. I feel similarly.

Playing violin has been so much more fun since I decided to not pursue it as a career in 2008. Back then, it felt like a job. A chore. It was painful. Since then, it has just been fun. It's there when I need it and if I need to back away, I can. :-)

But I have missed it.
