Summer is here, typhoons as well, humidity levels are off the roof and we’re already covering the mats with rivers of sweat with simple warming-up exercices. We have aircon at only one of the dojo where I practice. Simple fans in another one, and nothing at all in the last one. It’s a bit... tough. Give me winter every day.
And then people wonder why I wait until December to test. Strategy, folks! I want to be able to train properly without losing 99% of my energy by simply sweating.
Anyway, I had fun last night doing our traditional final sitting technique (kokyu ho suwari waza). Our GM is always grinning like mad when I’m partnering up with beefy guys. I’m happy to say my technique has improved a lot and with the right amount of push/power they submit quickly enough.
Yesterday my partner was a real solid and heavy blackbelt, so our GM called me out, and mimicked a punch to the chin to get rid of him. I was like “errr ok, is this even... ‘legal’? in the ‘book’?” and my GM just shrugged, “you do what you’ve got to do to get rid of him.”
OK then, smashing the chin from below it is! Sorry sempai.
my band director on the first day of school: I hope you all practice during the summer like you were supposed to me: HAh WHAT YEAH TOTALly
i just realized that the tops of my legs are one shade darker than the lower parts of my legs because we do high-steps
When the attending is nowhere to be found
i find it funny how some of my classmates are complaining about not seeing their friends over the summer. us band kids have summer band camp. we are always with friends. always
got too silly and will need to fix these ones at home using photos
damn
It’s always more difficult to motivate yourself to practice over the summer which is why I’ve been preparing these practice challenge sheets for my piano students. While I haven’t chosen which practice techniques we’ll focus on each week, I’m excited to see my students have a little extra motivation to practice as they have a friendly little competition for a gift card prize. As an extra bonus, I’m learning a new Brahms piece while they do this, and I’ll play it for my students at the end of the challenge.
