Can Dead Space 3's Co-Op Instill The Fear In You?
The answer to that title question is YES! E3 2012 is at the tail end of its glory and we've already seen a plethora of upcoming games that will blow our minds later this year. It comes to no surprise that one of them, for me at least, is going to be Dead Space 3.
Steve Papoutsis, VP and GM of Visceral Games, showcased a co-op demo of Dead Space 3 live during Electronic Art's press conference. I was a little skeptical at first whether or not the addition of having co-op would work within the franchise. Needless to say, it does and I am super thrilled about it. Check out the live demo video below to understand just what I mean:
Survival horror has been one of those video game genres talked about lately that somehow manages to turn into an action oriented genre overtime (see Resident Evil franchise). Dead Space's gameplay on the other hand, is all about incorporating fear, terror, jumps, and staying on the tippy top of your toes as much as possible. This sequel, due out February 2013 on multiple platforms, manages to blend many of its original elements together so perfectly well that co-op is able to exist. The fear and terror for Isaac Clarke, and newcomer John Carver, will certainly be present.
Yet, this is a demo, and we won't know just how well the finished product will be until its release in a little under a year. I will say though, how can you not have positive thoughts of this game already? I mean, all that noise, pop-ups of necromorphs, and so on. Wouldn't you want to enjoy these moments with your buddy in a co-op experience? I certainly do!
