I Saw The Devil || Mami + Ruki
It took a great deal of Mami's will to leave the infirmary this second time. Positive that people would hate her for what happened during the trial, she'd cowered away until she could no longer hide. Even if people hated her, she had a job to do. Who else would uphold justice? Even she, in her pathetic form, could do her best to stop the others from fighting and killing. If they just stopped, things could turn out okay. Why, then, did so many people kill? What was the point?
In an effort to distract herself from there questions, Mami sought refuge in the library. Hidden between the quiet rows of books, she could research new recipes for meals she could make. With enough good food and kind words, perhaps she could lessen the stain she'd left after the trial. And so it was that Mami Tomoe walked from row to row in silence - assured that she was alone. That was, of course, until she came to a row that housed the cooking books. Somewhere between Easy Meals In 30 Minutes and Homestyle Happiness stood a boy she hadn't seen before.
While Mami might have approached him, he gave off an aura that she wasn't quite sure how to place. The closest she could come would be intimidation. In the span of two breaths, Mami had resolved to leave him alone. However, perched above his head was the exact book she'd been looking for - a collection of recipes for baking. There was a certain orange who would be getting more than a few apology cakes and how could she give him two of the same type? She simply couldn't.
As quietly as she could, Mami stepped closer to the male and reached out for the book in question. Shelved too far for her to reach with ease, Mami suppressed a grunt of effort as her fingertips grazed it's spine. With some clever manuvering, though, Mami was able to hook her fingernail into the spine and slowly drag it forward. She might have even been proud of herself until the book teetered too far toward the male. Before she could stop it, it hit him square on the head before bouncing off his shoulder and landing with a resounding thud. Oh dear.
It hadn't been a light book. In fact, it must have been quite painful. For a moment, Mami stared up at the male with wide eyes before quickly sweeping into a deep bow of apology. "Please forgive me. I was careless and you were hurt as a result. If you need to go to the infirmary, I'll take care of any bruises you received." The mixture of concern and embarrassment in her voice was almost overwhelming. "I am so sorry."
