I feel a little sad today because I am pretty sure one of my best friends for 16 years moved out of state today and didn’t tell me. She hasn’t been close to me in a little while and today just hit that home for me.

I hate this.

I don't know. There aren't really words for this. The Beastie Boys were really important to me as an adolescent, like they were for tons of people. We're all really sad right now. And I'm sort of at a loss.

I will say this though: When I was a kid and a teenager, the Beastie Boys were sort of the first indication I got of what it means to be Jewish and COOL and a musician. They were sort of the first peek into a really rich and vital history of Jews and American music that, along with all of the music I listened to and watched and absorbed as I grew up -- was super, super important to shaping me into the person I am today. And for that I am very, very thankful.

And also really, really sad. All my love to his friends and family.
