When will I receive my digital copy?

It may take us a couple days up to a week to review your receipt and send you your file.

What can I do with my digital copy?

These books are optimized for printing at home and for computer assistive technology. Each purchase comes with a "permission to print" form so you can print the coloring books at home or at a shop for personal use.

Can I donate MORE than $12USD?

What if you wanted to give $50USD to that charity? PLEASE DO! When you email us your receipt you can tell us what you want to do with your donation, do you want to donate books back to the event? Do you want the 2021 Coloring Book as well? Let us know! All donations will be tallied for the event total.

I started reading fic when I was 13 in 1999. Before Google.

I’m old?

In fact, my very first google search was a piece of Backstreet Boys fanfiction. I knew the title, the author and basic premise but couldn’t find it. A guy from a n*fty.org chat room recommended this cool new search engine.

Anywho, I found the fic (thanks Google) and read throughout high school, throughout college, and about a year and a half after college. Then I realized I was spending all my time living vicariously through characters online instead of working hard to accomplish a real life. So I quit fanfic altogether.

When I quit fic AO3 was just getting off the ground. In fact I helped vectorize their logo way back in college as a new, young, graphic designer.

Today I was looking through and thinking about how much easier it is to search for fic. I remember trawling through the toxic junk heap of ff.net and looking through endless livejournal posts for HOURS. H O U R S. Like I was there y’all I’ve seen some shit and it could take DAYS to find something good worth reading. I now have 9 pages of ‘Marked for Later’ fic that is of decent enough quality that I regularly browse through it to be selective in what I read.

I also remember being so broke, downloading shit illegally and torrenting stuff. Our internet almost got shut off like 4 times. I thought, I’m so broke-let someone older, wiser, settled-an adult pay for this.

Today I set up a monthly donation to @ao3org. I’m 35 and I’m really happy to help support the place that got me through the pandemic and support the people who have improved the world of fandom dramatically. Pay it back y’all.

The AO3 kerfluffle

I am convinced this dust up over AO3′s funding is either 4chan/incel/comicsgate/gamergate douchebag driven, or the Russian bots have literally run out of ideas as to what part of our lives is left for them to ruin. It’s possible that some of the fandom bullies who’ve done cruel things to archive users and been banned might be, too. (They exist; I wish it were not so but they do, and their cruelty and bitterness know no bounds.)

But can we consider a possible positive: That true fans might now be more aware of how the org runs, that they as users have broad access to the org’s financials (it has a silver rating on Guidestar for high transparency), that maybe they might get more involved now?

I have volunteered with the org in several capacities but last year, ran out of neurotransmitters and time and gave up on a lot of things I love. But if you check the front page of the Archive site, or go directly to the parent org, aka, Organization for Transformative Works, you’ll see when they are currently looking for volunteers for various positions. 

You get extensive training (and sometimes, it’s literally stuff to put on your resume; this is a global organization, after all) and the privilege of working with great people and doing a great thing to further the goals of transformative fandom.
