What happens when a dream makes the oblivious Wei Wuxian understand his feelings at fifteen. What happens when the dream him gives insights into things Wei Wuxian has only ever expressed interest in learning once, but was reprimanded for. What happens when the Lan Sect, known for pursuing knowledge and innovation, learn the Jiang Sect has neglected to nurture the once in a lifetime genius they picked up off the street. ___ A self indulgent fix-it fic where Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji figure their shit out earlier and people accept that Wei Wuxian is way smarter than most of the Cultivation World, for better or worse. It changes a lot! Mojo's comments: Great story in which wwx snags himself a Talismans and Arrays Master (a cousin of lqr) and also has a smutty/important-info-on-resentful-energy dream - probably from future wwx - that sends his life in a whole new trajectory. His new Master adores and supports him. She's married to the Head Physician, and he winds up hurt so badly by the Abyss that he spends a lot of time there. Lqr comes around, and everyone loves wwx except for jiang cheng. Events happen. Love grows. wwx flourishes and thrives. then he gets whipped (more) by zidian leading to more h/c and the lan clan coming around him. This story ends at 14/? and wraps everything up neatly from the Abyss Arc. It's a good stopping point, so don't worry about diving in.

Summary: Lan Xichen had been woken by the insomniac young man, he was surprised to see the younger man bowing low and asking to be punished for the disrespect he had done to Wangji and for breaking numerous rules and what alarmed the sect heir the most was that Wei Wuxian asked for the punishment to be done unto him. Wei Wuxian took each strike of the discipline paddle with little noise, his lips pressing together at each blow. Lan Xichen hated himself for having to order such a harsh price to pay for infractions he would have allowed provided his uncle was absent from the events that led to the infractions. But the pleas Wei Wuxian directed at him, the harsher tone he had used to push his case. Lan Xichen found himself unable to refute what Wei Wuxian had asked of him. Lan Xichen forced himself to watch each strike, count each blow and at one point, he held Wei Wuxian up to make sure he would not collapse from the pain. “Wei-gongzi, you do not need to-” Lan Xichen tried but Wei Wuxian shook his head. “You said one hundred strikes.” Wei Wuxian bit out. “I won’t complain.” Lan Xichen wished he could lie and claim he lost count. Or The Lans find out about WWX's abuse and protects him Kay's comments: This is a very indulgent read for me and I'll be the first to admit it. Very much Jiang Family bashing and with the Lans being much better and kinder than they were in canon and I'm so here for it. I just love to see people outraged on Wei Wuxian's behalf and about how he was treated. And a surprise Qingheng-Jun too! And Lan family drama with a spin on the Mama Lan story I haven't read elsewhere yet! Excerpt: “Peace, Wei-gongzi,” Lan Xichen assured him with a smile that was clear in its attempt to soothe him. “We simply wish to apologise to you for your treatment prior to this week, we had been too harsh on you.” “It’s nothing I’m not used to, Lan-gongzi.” Wei Wuxian was quick to assure Lan Xichen who looked one second away from kowtowing to him. “That is no excuse, Wei Wuxian,” Lan-xiansheng replied, his weariness etched into the frown on his face, “we had been unjust to you. Me, most of all. I let a grudge of years ago blind me from my duties as your teacher.” Wei Wuxian shook his head. “I’d been troublesome.” He reasoned with the two Lans. “You are being youthful,” Lan Xichen argued, his tone hardening into something firm and stubborn. “That is no crime in my eyes.” “You had been mistreated, Wei Wuxian,” Lan-xiansheng said without preamble. “No one should bear the scars you do,” Wei Wuxian’s smile froze on his lips and he began backing away slowly, hoping he could escape this situation.

Summary: Lan Xichen is a pediatrician who often treats child abuse cases for various foster homes, orphanages and social workers for free. He's currently looking for a second nurse because Luo Qingyang is freshly back from maternal leave and can't be expected to work full time with a baby on hand and none of her substitutes were up to the task. Enter Wei Ying with a semester worth of med school, stellar recommendations, a huge gap in his CV and a laugh bright and warm as the sun. Skeptical at first, Xichen decides to give the man a chance. He gets more than he bargained for with exactly zero regrets. Kay's comments: The second tag of this story is 'No Therapy' and I wish they would have gone to therapy. Absolutely beautiful story though and I can imagine Wei Ying as a nurse so well! The Jiang family dynamics in this story are rough and it's a work in progress towards reconciliation. Wangxian's relationship development was absolutely beautiful and I loved how they fell in love and how music connected them. Also loved the art and the nursery rhymes at the end of each chapter. Excerpt: "As I initially thought," Doctor Lan started, "I haven't found any other suitable candidate. I was wondering if we could perhaps try again?" This time his smile looked genuine. Wei Ying's heart hammered against his chest. He felt slightly light headed. "I'm a felon," he answered because he didn't know what else to say. "I served time. Do you really want to trust me with kids?" "Your closest friends trust you with their children," came the simple reply. Wei Ying exhaled at length. "I believe their judgment to be more informed than mine. I also intended to extend the trial period from three to six months. This would put you at a disadvantage. If this isn't an acceptable term…" "It's fine," Wei Ying said before the Doctor could finish and looked at his hands. His fingers felt numb. He rubbed them. "Why me?" It fell out of him before he could think better of it, but Doctor Lan didn't give him a chance to panic about it, answering right away. "I try not to judge people by their worst mistakes," he said and this time Wei Ying really believed his smile. "And also, both nurse Luo and Doctor Wen put in a word for you. I know first hand how hard it is to earn nurse Luo's respect and while Doctor Wen is considered fresh blood, she has already gained a reputation. Hardworking, demanding and harsh, but never unfair."

Summary: Lan Zhan hesitates, looking between them. He feels utterly lost on the meaning of the conversation. "What… do you mean?" "The marriage," his uncle urges impatiently. "Do you have a date, yet? I suppose all of your distant cousins will want to attend, so you'd better have one soon." Oh. Oh, no. Lan Zhan takes a deep breath and puts his chopsticks down. This is going to be a long explanation. (or: five times in which people wrongly assumed Lan Zhan and Wei Ying were married, and one time they were finally right) Kay's comments: Very cute 5+1 story where everyone assumes Lan Zhan and Wei Ying are already married, because they just seem so married! I loved how there weren't any painful misunderstandings/miscommunications between Wangxian in this story and I loved A-Yuan's POV at the very cute. Incredibly cute and wholesome. Excerpt: "Thank you, A-Xian," his sister beams, and then her attention is quickly averted towards A-Yuan, who's being held on Lan Zhan's hip. Wei Ying can't even feel offended at holding her attention for such a short moment - that's just A-Yuan's effect. He totally gets it. "Lan Wangji, it's nice to see you again. And A-Yuan! Don't you look so handsome today! Do you want to come and see your cousin?" At the mention of his little cousin Jin Ling, A-Yuan visibly perks up, and nods shyly. Lan Zhan lets him down, as soon enough they watch as Jiang Yanli leads him away, certainly towards where she's sitting with her husband. Wei Ying turns to look at Aunt Yu as he takes Lan Zhan's arm when it's offered to him. She's looking at them with a weird expression, almost like she's… pleased for some reason? It's not a look Wei Ying has seen often in her face over the years. "I'm glad to see you've finally taken responsibility," it's what comes out of her mouth after a few more seconds of awkward silence. She's looking directly at Lan Zhan when she says it, which makes it even more confusing.

Summary: Xichen wasn’t even sure Wangji was open to finding his soulmate. The mechanism of soulmate matching was inexact and open to misinterpretation. It was very frustrating. Wangji had always preferred certainty. Kay's comments: A cute little outsider POV story where we follow Lan Xichen watching over his brother as he first meets his soulmate. I really enjoyed how soul marks work in this story, very creative! And I'm always weak for some good outsider POV. Excerpt: A group of visiting students from Yunmeng Jiang wandered by on their way to the first class of the day. Despite their hushed voices, they were a noisy bunch, especially in contrast to the silent groups of Lan students who sedately made their way to the classrooms. “Lan-er-gongzi,” one of the boys in the Jiang group shouted. Xichen recognized Wei Wuxian, Sect Leader Jiang’s ward. Wangji turned his head away. “Hey, it’s me,” Wei Wuxian continued. “I’m not late! Aren’t you proud of me?” Xichen felt as if he had missed something. Wei Wuxian had arrived yesterday with the rest of the Jiang contingent. As lively as he was, he had certainly made an impression during the welcome reception, but Wangji had not been present for it. However, there had been a misunderstanding at the gate when they arrived, and Wangji had returned at that time…

Summary:  When you are lost and hope is gone, but you must go on, sometimes all you can do is take a step, and do the next right thing (stolen shamelessly from Disney’s Frozen II), aka Zewu-Jun is not an obtuse idiot.

My comments:  Oh, this is so satisfying. Post Sunshot Campaign, Lan Xichen remains frustrated with a wwx who STILL refuses to weild his sword. But then lwj lets something slip, and lxc begins to piece together some things, and figures it out, and FIXES THINGS. He just. Takes one step after another and fixes all the fucked up things to make sure everything is fair and just and the people he loves are safe and healthy.

Excerpt:  [lxc has an epiphany:] No, a Golden Core could not be repaired, but it could be replaced, and the only two cultivators who had ever undergone the procedure were Jiang Cheng and Wei WuXian. Jiang Cheng was only still a cultivator and Clan Leader because Wei WuXian’s Golden Core now resided in him.

Jiang Cheng did not know, of course. His behavior towards his adopted brother proved that. Wei WuXian’s behavior was explained as well. His silence, his refusal to wield Suibian, his unwavering support of Wen Qing and the Wen remnants, his use of talismans and resentful energy – all of it was explained by this secret, this one, terrible secret.
