a/n: wanted to write a short before sort of thing for doctor/nurse reader genji that i wrote a while back hope that it came out alright cause ooooF the idea wouln’t leave me alone.
i guess you could consider this more so me just writing about genji and what he felt more so than a reader insert.
His breaths were frantic, exhausted from crying. From screaming out asking Hanzo why he had done this, why he had turned his sword against his own brother, asking turned into pleading for him to stop. For him to stop tearing, ripping and rending his flesh from his bone. To just stop hurting him, wishing that with every fiber in his heart, that his tears might move his brother just as they had done several times before.
But all that looked back at him was ice. Coldness and duty. Genji knew that he wouldn’t survive this, he wouldn’t be able to reach Hanzo, not behind that thick wall of ice covering his eyes or his heart.
So he laid there, listening to the sound of crying that did not belong to him (his tears all used up) everything hurt. Pain, deep and vibrating through his bones sort of pain that he was sure to feel in the afterlife.
Despite everything, the final breath he took was slow, peaceful and carrying the wish that maybe in another life he could have fixed things. Genji didn’t expect to open his eyes and to see some random person writing things down and looking at a clipboard. He didn’t expect to be saved, to be turned into some sort of living weapon.
His final breath was supposed to be a peaceful sending into the afterlife, but he woke up and thus turning from something peaceful to revenge. He’d make everyone around him regret giving him a new body, a second chance.
