In the book, Daemon gave his non-Targaryen paramour a dragon egg for their child but sure, he's a Valyrian supremacist (wtf does that mean ??)

Another cryptic ask. I don't understand if this is a green stan coming at me or a black stan not getting the sarcasm of the phrase??

So this phrase means that Daemon isn't a Valyrian supremacist because he valued his illegitimate child with a non Valyrian prostitute enough to give them a dragon egg. So he actually doesn't care if the child has pure Valyrian blood or not as long as it's his child, he has the same value as his other pure Valyrian blood children. Which is a correct statement. So yeah if you're a black stan that didn't understand, there it is, if you're a green stan, you can continue reading, it will be fun.

Valyrian supremacism does not exist. The very term gives me ick. We're talking about a fictional, magical, incestuous noble family of weird people that happened to be the ruling family for centuries. Supremacism does not enter that discussion. Of course the ruling family are "supremacists" (🤮) in the general sense, they are the ruling family in a feudal context. But it's not relevant information or criticism because we are talking about a political system that is BASED on certain people's supremacy over others. Supremacy (not supremacism) is the quality of being superior to others. Targaryens, Starks, Lannisters, Hightowers, Tyrells, Martells ALL have that quality. They ALL have the privilege of being superior to others because of their blood. Among them, Targaryens are superior (not supremacists, superior) because they are the strongest house with the most special magic thanks to their dragons. They also happen to be the rulers. So of course among all the houses that are superior to common folk thanks to their blood, the ruling house is higher in the hierarchy.

So supremacy of nobility IS the basic foundation of this universe. Supremacism however is a modern political term designed to criticize the belief that you are superior to others because of a certain characteristic you have. So supremacy is a quality, supremacism is a political term. This political term should be used ONLY in the relevant political context and NOT in a political context that is literally BASED on blood supremacy.

I'm trying to explain this in the simplest words possible but using terms as white or Valyrian supremacism/colonialism/anti war for the ASOIAF-Fire and Blood universe makes you look stupid. It's like, reading a book about the French monarchy and supporting all noble Houses except the ruling house, so other Ducs, Marquis, Counts etc because the King is a supremacist. And somehow they are not.

Kazimir Malevich – The Black Square (1915)

Malevich was a hugely influential avant-garde artist from Kiev who founded the Suprematist school of art, which stressed pure feeling from shapes over representative imagery.  Malevich actually made 4 black square paintings, as well as numerous other variants on this theme, like Black Circle.  It was intended to contain nothing and everything, the zero point of painting, from which anything can emerge.  Unfortunately, the quality of these paintings have greatly degraded and now appear cracked and warped, greatly changing the feel of the work.

While studying in St. Petersburg, Russia, I took a class of modern Russian art.  I hadn’t heard of a single one of the artists we studied, even though many of them, like Malevich, were so hugely important in the development of contemporary art.  The iron curtain largely prevented the Soviet world and the west from freely sharing artistic ideas, and it’s unfortunate that this work is so unknown in the US.

Só que não, eu mesmo invento sem criar livros enormes e cheios de devaneio para explicar coisas do dia-a-dia. Mas vou fazer um pequeno glossário antes de começar os textos.

Polinormatividade: normas (popularmente cagação de regras) inventadas só para dizer que este é o padrão poliantrópico (poliamor ou poligâmico). Já citada em textos de Assexual Orelhudo​. Lembrando que polinormativo é diferente de 'polissexista' ou 'poligamismo', nada se compara ao monogamismo e mononormatividade que são supremacismos e elitismos afetivos. Poliginia mascunormativa e falocêntrica: basicamente a primeira e velha imagem do que monogamistas pensam sobre o que é poliamor e poligamia, alegando ser a coisa mais machista do mundo dicishétero (onde só o homem é livre para se relacionar com quem quiser). Isso é uma realidade compulsória e sentida até mesmo em relações não-mono. Há uma prescrição cis-heteropatriarcal do como relacionamentos poli 'funcionam'. Mascunormatividade foi cunhada na orientando.org, se não me engano, para se referir a norma masculina (dentro e fora do meio não-binário). Supremacia monogamista: todo o higienismo de relacionamento amato-normativo, que se baseia na idéia como se relacionamentos estritamente monogâmicos, monofiéis e fechados fossem o correto e os únicos funcionais. Também advocam e defendem a infidelidade sem consentimento, talaricagem não-consentida e traição, dando-as perdões fiscais, para jamais admitirem que praticam abusos e auto-destruição em nome do amor monogâmico, pondo toda culpa na não-monogamia. Monofidelidade performativa: fingir que sua fidelidade singular e estrita é perfeita, também evitar falar de pensamentos 'carnais', promíscuos e/ou epicenos, ignorando e superficializando atrações estéticas por outras pessoas, psiquicamente nem se identificando com a animalia. Performatividade advém de 'performative allyship', junção inglesa pra 'militância de telão', ativismo pelo qual só é exercido em frente às câmeras. Ou seja, alusão de que para a sociedade, sua relação é linda e maravilhosa (eternamente feliz), mas omitindo os bastidores implicitos e ocultos da espera da vida pública.

Agora iremos traçar o que é gamia, e o que a diferencia da amoria (amorismo/amoridade, vem de amory/amorous, relação amorosa). Seria namoro um relacionamento amoroso? Há quem defina que seja um combo de compromisso, seriedade, fidelidade, afeto e sexo. Mas e assexuais não podem ser monoamor ou poliamor também? Logicamente essas combinações não são reais para todo mundo.

Casamento afinal, o que realmente é? Um trato assinado para relações estáveis civil / religiosamente? O tempo passa, o que antes era chamada de relação amasiada (amasiar poderia ser morar junto, fazer tudo que fazem na gamia numa relação amorosa porém sem oficialidade), hoje já é casar, para boa parte da população. Há também as queerplatonicidades (ou relações quasiplatônicas), que se assemelham muito a isso, com um tom de amicabilidade, familiaridade e proximidade sem serem românticas ou amicais, semelhantes a 'melhores amizades' porém 'quase-platônicas'. Vale lembrar que amizade e platonicidade (não confundir com platonismo) também são empiristas (construídas socialmente).

Quando falamos de poliamor assexual, há muitas pessoas que presumem que assexuais são pessoas absolutamente românticas (adicionalmente excessivas). Mas já imaginou aroaces (assexuais arromântiques) se declarando poli? Essas pessoas existem, tanto é que existe a bandeira polyaffectionate (poliafetuosa) para pessoas arromânticas (a que está na imagem). Tendemos a enxergar os conceitos de exclusividade amorosa sem uma fidelidade totalitária, como representada por aí. Lembrando também que há espectros das assexualidades e arromanticidades, e até mesmo pessoas que evitam rótulos -sexuais e -românticos para usarem -sensoriais/-sensuais, -sociais e -platônicos, devido a conotações pessoais (tanto externas quanto internas). Arromanticidade​, nonamor, sologamia e agamia são separadas.

Desconstruindo tudo isso, podemos afirmar que, assim como existem relações estéticos e mentais (espiritual ou intelectual), há casamentos que são apenas platônicos e poliamorias meramente afeituosas e amicais, até mesmo celibato romântico. Tantas combinações e formas, formando diversas afinidades mútuas e afetividades interpessoais (um leque de a/diversidades), que podem ser variantes e diversificadas.

Sobre a segregação de gênero: mulheres têm grande dificuldade em reconhecer e externalizar seu poliamor. Por que homens aparentam sentir-se livres para fazerem o que quiser, enquanto mulheres se sentem hiper-protegidas ou ameaçadas dentro de relacionamentos? Por que a representação homenil de poli é hipogâmica na maioria das vezes?

Todo esse elitismo mental e social, enfrentados por pessoas não-mono, pode ser sentido por pseudo-monogâmicos que reforçam sua monofidelidade sem estrutura. Ou seja, muita gente é afetada em nome do cis-heteroamor mononormativo, dicisheterossexismo sentido de longe e de perto. E como vem gente dizer que isso tudo não é repressão, opressão ou um tipo de discriminação?

Outra coisa: heteroPATRIarcado, ou seja, o pai (homem) arca com a relação heteronormativa. Pessoas lésbicas e sáficas são diretamente fetichizadas por homens (e na maioria das vezes sem consentimento). E se o homem que manda, homens gays que são mais punidos. A transhomofobia de homens cis é majoritariamente contra pessoas designadas homenis/masculinas ao nascer e que são variantes (trans/gays/bi/pluri/nb/etc.). Desde criança somos repreendidas para não sermos femininas, andróginas, meninas, 'mulherzinha' ou homo-afetivas. Putafobia enfrentada na pele, enraizada pelo imperialismo e obscurantismo de períodos colonialistas. Isso reflete em como a homossexualidade e transsexualidade são criminalizadas e condenadas em certos países da Afro-Ásia, onde há específicas permissividades para mulheridades trans e lesbicidades (lesbianidades e saficidades pluris), tudo em nome do homem-centrismo poligâmico. Concluí-se que a transhomofobia feminina/mulheril também é maior com indíviduos designados femininos/mulheris ao nascer e que são variantes. A homossocialidade nos provoca a competir e nos desvencilhar da irmandade (fraternidade / sororidade). \transhomofobia pode ser substituída por cisheterossexismo

Vale lembrar que poligamia e bigamia são vistas em certas intersecções da não-monogamia como monogamias plurais, pois monogamia é definida como estrita e sem liberdade (autoritária, fechada e não-livre).

“Representation” in Dragon Age

My father is a Croat. A Slav. If you do a two-minute google search, you’ll find that a typical Slav is supposed to have a round face, pale skin, blond or light brown hair, and blue or light eyes.

In American media, Slavic characters are usually presented as members of a mafia, criminals, liars, pimps (or prostitutes, if they’re women), drunkards, vulgar brutes, fanatic communists, lazy, living in poor and ugly cities and countries, without any hope of changing their fate unless an American hero saves them, like “Black Widow” in Avengers (who is of course, not played by a Slav), and all of them speak with Russian accent and have Russian surnames. 

My Dad is a typical Croat. But he’s not a typical Slav as presented in the American media. Big surprise, I know! He does drink wine and ale, but I’ve only seen him tipsy once in my life. He’s the most honest person in the world that I’ve ever seen, and he never said the word ‘fuck’. He insists that ‘dirty jobs’, such as vacuuming the rooms, or cleaning toilet and bathroom, are not fit for a lady. While I lived with my parents, I have never cleaned the toilet. Not once.

He also doesn’t fit the idea of a pale, blond guy.  He has dark brown skin, black hair, dark green eyes. It’s also not so rare. It may not fit into the American stereotype about what Slavs are like, but especially in southern Croatia, it’s pretty common. 

Why am I saying all this? 

Because I want to talk about ‘correct representation’ in the Dragon Age fandom.

You see, my father is MUCH DARKER than Zevran. And yet he’s not a 'person of colour’, which is, btw, American term, based on American racial issues, following from American history and culture. 

Recently I saw a post about people who ‘whitewash’ Zevran to fit with their ugly snow-white Wardens, accusing them of not representing Zevran as a POC correctly. I see what you’re doing, the author threatened, so do better!

The author of that post didn’t name anyone, so I won’t name them, either. But if you know my Warden, Airam Surana, you’ll know he’s snow-white, quite literally. Not because I’m a racist, but because I love to torment my characters (those who really know Airam and his story known what I mean). But anyway, that’s not the point. I don’t know if the author of that rant meant me or not, and honestly, I don’t care. That’s just what brought the post to my attention. 

What pissed me off is that threat at the end. 

Zevran is Antivan, and Antiva is based on Spain and/or Italy. None of the Italians I know in person identify themselves as ‘persons of colour’. But, okay. Anyone can interpret the game and the settings and the social context in their own way. 

But in that case, if someone interprets Zevran differently, it’s also okay. If someone comes from different, non-American culture and environment, and see Zevran as ‘white’, it’s also okay. Or if someone recognizes that Tevinter is in fact RUSSIA, and decides to portray Dorian as a Russian, i.e. blond and pale, because they want more positive representation of Russians in the game, it’s also fucking okay. 

And you have no right to impose American cultural biases on them.

Because you may think you’re fighting for social justice, but in fact, you’re just saying, ‘We don’t know or care who you are, where you’re coming from and what are your reasons, but if you’re doing this, you’re wrong. Your culture and values are wrong and you need to change it. You should learn about American history and American issues, and correct your ways accordingly. No, we don’t know a fuck about your history and culture, but that’s okay because you’re not American and you’re clearly wrong anyway. Now, we’re watching you, so do better.’ 

Next time you want to preach about ‘representation’ and accuse someone of whitewashing, make sure you’re not in fact spouting supremacist bullshit, marginalizing non-Americans and denying them their right for self-representation.
