Youth with You: Update!
Still WOW! This show is so good! Each episode the girls are improving so much and I’m so proud and happy to see their growth. This season it is really hard for me to stick to just a top 9! I like so many girl and think they could shine in a girl group! So before I reveal my top 9 I’d like to explain and give some shout outs. I want it to be known that many of my favs were not included in my top 9 ranking. I chose this as if I was a producer. I will make a separate post about my second Top 9 girls. I’d like to give a personal shout out to Fei Qinyuan, Frhanm Shangguan, Shaking, Xinran Song, Air Su and Xin Liu. They are all great and I love them also. This ranking is also NOT in order of my personal favorites but how I think the group would be the most successful. __________________________________________________________

Idol Producer

Cr: twitter accounts
I’ve seen some conflict about a group of CNC Record trainees on Idol Producer allegedly stealing ACE’s Cactus choreography, made by Lia Kim and Koosung Jung. I have some thoughts about this so I thought I might as well post them. Firstly, I’m admittedly fond of Idol Producer and many trainees on it and I want it to be clear that ONLY the trainees who danced to it and their company are at fault. That being said, to my knowledge they didn’t claim the choreography as their own so calling it plagiarism is a bit much in my opinion. This is the second IP scandal after Lin Chaoze/Banana Ent. claimed he made Yugyeom’s hit the stage choreo. It’s definitely an issue, but this is just a symptom of a much larger issue.
Lia Kim has talked about this in extent before, so I won’t go too much into it, but choreographers and their work doesn’t really have much legal protection as far as plagiarism, copying, or reusing, in the same way music does. Technically, it’s completely fine to use someone else’s choreography without explicitly crediting it. Many many trainees on survival shows(Korean ones) have used other people’s choreo or ideas without even mentioning it. I could give multiple examples but I don’t want to start a war. Morally, however, I definitely feel that it’s wrong. Especially for small groups like A.C.E, taking something they worked so hard on, that Lia and Koosung made especially for them and treating it like no big deal is incredibly insulting. But I don’t know that it’s right to crucify these trainees who likely just don’t know better, since no one they are surrounded by watches out for that or cares. Again - it’s not illegal and is commonly practiced worldwide and among idols to use ideas or copy choreos without proper credit. If you never see people credit choreographers, you probably wouldn’t know you needed to, even if it seems obvious to us.
(Side Note: China is newer to idol groups, the training system isn’t as advanced so they don’t learn about things like this. They just learn how to put a song and dance together but not much beyond that. So, it merits a bit of grace imo)
I’m not saying CNC Records/the trainees were justified by any means, and pointing out that they were wrong is fair. All I’m saying is that we need to take a moment to consider the other side of the situation before lashing out or immediately getting angry. TBH we represent A.C.E, it’s our job to present ourselves as Choice well. Do we want to be the immature, overly defensive fandom that jumps into a fight without asking what happened or the mature fandom that just wants injustices to be addressed, dealt with, and prevented in the future? There has to be a better way to deal with this than getting angry on Twitter without taking clear action towards a resolution.

I’m sorry if I’m out of place to post this, but it’s been on my mind for a while so I thought I’d say something.
I often see fans, Choices and other fandoms, seeing their idol done wrong and immediately placing blame or going on the offensive without knowing the full story or all the information. For A.C.E, we’ve seen this namely with the feminism scandal and recently with the Idol Producer trainees. The feminism scandal, I feel was handled really well overall by Choice, and has been resolved so I won’t talk about it. But I feel like i need to talk about the Idol Producer thing.
I made a whole post about my opinion in detail here and on VApp (VApp:http://channels.vlive.tv/D205A5/fan/0.5238147) tumblr link:(https://chickenisdestiny.tumblr.com/post/171719852491/ive-seen-some-conflict-about-a-group-of-cnc) so I won’t rehash it, but I want to say this — it can be irreversibly damaging to blame something or someone that was not in the wrong. I’ve seen people here, on Twitter and Instagram, all saying things like “Idol Producer stole A.C.E’s choreo” or “Idol Producer stole Yugyeom’s dance.” But that’s just not true. Two different groups of trainees out of an original 100 contestants copied the dances on their own. It had nothing to do with IP as a show. But when we say “Idol Producer stole the choreo”, it’s actively discrediting Every. Single. Person. on the the show. Zhang Yixing, the mentors including Jackson, Jieqiong and Cheng Xiao, as well as all of the other contestants who worked their tails off to create their stages.
I don’t know if it’s because IP is Chinese or what, but no one does this with Koreans. I didn’t say this before bc I didn’t want to start drama but I want you to understand what I mean: Boys24 Inho copied the Chikada siblings choreo to Lick Shots, Mix9’s Brave Girls auditions - one girl did Prepix - Fireball. That’s just two of survival show auditions that didn’t credit the artist. I’m not saying they stole it, but nowhere did the pay give credit. The biggest I can think of right now? Stray Kids in JYP vs. YG. That move where they put their shirts over the others knees to look like a kid is 100% the same as GOT7 Jackson and Jinyoung did on a variety show. They didn’t claim to have made everything, but they or at least their choreographer would have been sure to know about it, it wasn’t original by any means. There’s more, but those are just what immediately come to mind.
All of this is too say, individuals copying choreography is nothing new at all. But when it’s people we know vs. people we don’t we turn a blind eye. It’s not right. I already said I think it was wrong to for CNC trainees to use the Cactus choreography. But, I think it’s more wrong to discount an entire large group of humans with hopes and dreams because of a bias, when no one seems to stand up for anyone else this happened to. So please, do your research before getting upset at the wrong people.
