Our 2017 Summer Season is here!
Shenandoah Valley Music Festival is excited to announce its first few performers for the upcoming summer season, some of which are the biggest names in country, folk and bluegrass.
Renowned singer-songwriter, Emmylou Harris will be performing at SVMF on Sept. 2. A 13-time GRAMMY Award winner, Emmylou is one of the most respected and well-known singer-songwriters in the genres of country, folk and Americana. She burst onto the country music scene in the 1970s and has since sold more than 15 million records and recorded 25 albums. She was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008. Over the years, she has collaborated with a number of famous artists including Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Gram Parsons. Johnny Cash, Lyle Lovett, Roy Orbison and Willie Nelson.
Also appearing at SVMF on July 21 will be the legendary Arlo Guthrie, best known for his colorful story-telling and timeless folk hits of the 1960s and 70s. Arlo will be performing as part of SVMF’s Wayback Weekend” of musical nostalgia. On July 22, the celebration will culminate with “Celebrate 1967: The Summer of Love and the Beatles.” Piedmont Symphony Orchestra returns with its rock band to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that seminal year in American music history. The evening will feature hit songs from the Summer of Love, when tens of thousands of hippies flocked to Haight-Asbury in the summer of 1967 to promote peace, love and the counterculture and songs from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour, two of the Beatles’s most famous albums also released that year .
In addition to its POPs concert, The Piedmont Symphony Orchestra will return to SVMF on July 29 to perform an evening of popular movie themes and well-loved show tunes.
Headlining SVMF’s Bluegrass Minifest on Sept. 3 will be Balsam Range, a 10-time International Bluegrass Music Awards winner, known for their strong vocals, tight harmonies and expert musicianship. Also performing at the minifest will be Band of Rohks, comprised of former members of the ever-popular Lonesome River Band, and After Jack, an up-and-coming, female trio with powerhouse vocals and an energized style of Americana music that blends elements of pop, bluegrass, gospel and folk.
