Our 2017 Summer Season is here!

Shenandoah Valley Music Festival is excited to announce its first few performers for the upcoming summer season, some of which are the biggest names in country, folk and bluegrass.

Renowned singer-songwriter, Emmylou Harris will be performing at SVMF on Sept. 2.  A 13-time GRAMMY Award winner, Emmylou is one of the most respected and well-known singer-songwriters in the genres of country, folk and Americana. She burst onto the country music scene in the 1970s and has since sold more than 15 million records and recorded 25 albums. She was also inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008.  Over the years, she has collaborated with a number of famous artists including Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Gram Parsons. Johnny Cash, Lyle Lovett, Roy Orbison and Willie Nelson.

Also appearing at SVMF on July 21 will be the legendary Arlo Guthrie, best known for his colorful story-telling and timeless folk hits of the 1960s and 70s. Arlo will be performing as part of SVMF’s Wayback Weekend” of musical nostalgia. On July 22, the celebration will culminate with “Celebrate 1967: The Summer of Love and the Beatles.” Piedmont Symphony Orchestra returns with its rock band to celebrate the 50th anniversary of that seminal year in American music history. The evening will feature hit songs from the Summer of Love, when tens of thousands of hippies flocked to Haight-Asbury in the summer of 1967 to promote peace, love and the counterculture and songs from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and Magical Mystery Tour, two of the Beatles’s most famous albums also released that year .

In addition to its POPs concert, The Piedmont Symphony Orchestra will return to SVMF on July 29 to perform an evening of popular movie themes and well-loved show tunes.

Headlining SVMF’s Bluegrass Minifest on Sept. 3 will be Balsam Range, a 10-time International Bluegrass Music Awards winner, known for their strong vocals, tight harmonies and expert musicianship. Also performing at the minifest will be Band of Rohks, comprised of former members of the ever-popular Lonesome River Band, and After Jack, an up-and-coming, female trio with powerhouse vocals and an energized style of Americana music that blends elements of pop, bluegrass, gospel and folk.

The Bluegrass Minifest is here! Headlining will be Balsam Range, pictured at the top, a 10-time International Bluegrass Music Awards winner. The group is known for its strong vocals, tight harmonies and expert musicianship. Also performing will be Band of Ruhks, pictured middle — former members of the Lonesome River Band — and a young, up-and-coming female Trio from Virginia, After Jack, pictured bottom. These four stars from the original cast of “Jersey Boys” will bring their magic to SVMF, singing their favorite hits of from the ’60s –The Beatles, The Rascals, The Turtles, Motown, The Four Seasons and more!

A double header! The HillBenders will open the concert with their original bluegrass twist on  The Who’s famous rock opera “Tommy.”  This “bluegrass opry” will cover the original album from start to finish with audience participation.

Seldom Scene, a SVMF  favorite, is known for its soaring, incredibly tight, vocal gymnastics and stretching the bounds of traditional bluegrass, embracing artists such as Bob Dylan and the Grateful Dead.

The Piedmont Symphont Orchestra will return to the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival on July 29th to present “PSO in Tinseltown,” a performance of America’s best-loved movie themes.

Two great country rock bands in one night! Pure Prairie League is best known for the early ’70s chart-topper “Amie,” plus other timeless favorites including “Early Morning Riser,” “Jazzman” and, “Two Lane Highway,” and  “Falling in and out of Love.” Still going strong since the late ’60s, Poco will bring back memories with their many hits throughout the decades, including “Crazy Love,” “Heart of the Night,” “Call it Love,” plus many others.

Continuing our Wayback Weekend at SVMF, a groovy, far-out celebration of the Summer of Love's 50th Anniversary, will be the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra's "Sgt. Pepper and the Summer of Love” on July 22nd. The PSO will perform the music of Cream, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Mamas and The Papas, The Who, and other artists who dominated the music scene during the summer of '67 as well as songs from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonly Hearts Club Band" and "Magical Mystery Tour," two of the Beatles' most famous albums released that same year.
