this is what i spend my precious free time doing
(Media Studies analysis coming through here) in the Kenobi series finale, Vader says master twice, once when he thinks he's defeated Obi-Wan, then when he assures Palpatine of his allegiance.
I find it interesting the phrasing of this, when referring to Obi-Wan, Vader simply calls him "Master". When talking to Palpatine, however, Vader says "I serve only you, my master", which is an odd choice of words. "My master" implies Palpatine is in possession of Vader, as Vader is ‘his’. whilst "Master" lacks the possessive undertones. This could either be interpreted as Vader dismissing Obi-Wan's rank over him (as he is no longer a master to Vader, so no "My master" for him) OR it could be seen as Vader recognising Obi-Wan as a master to him as a final recognition and a goodbye to their old lives and past significance to eachother. This is reflected a few moments later, when Obi-Wan says "I'm sorry Anakin" and then "Goodbye, Darth", marking the end of an era and creating closure for them both as a kind of parting gift.
