This was probably the one I spent the most time on last week. It’s not quite the style I saw in my reference posters, but it’s a more painterly style which is what I was going for. Support the Resistance!

Finn Week Day 1: Not A Galaxy Far Far Away (Alternate Universes)

Finn was born in Cardassian Occupied Space and trained as a soldier from a young age. He eventually escaped the Cardassian conscripted military and joined the Maquis Resistance — only to be caught and imprisoned by Starfleet.

Captain Leia Organa of the starship Wayfinder recruits him from Federation prison to help track down her missing crewmember, Poe Dameron. Poe's ship disappeared in the Badlands while following a tip about Leia's brother, Luke Skywalker, an esteemed scientist who disappeared many years earlier along with his young apprentice and nephew, Leia's son Ben.

Hours into their search and rescue, the Wayfinder is transported to the Delta Quadrant by a super powerful force. They reunite with Poe on the desert planet of Jakku, where he crash landed. With the help of Rey, a young woman with powerful potential, they locate Luke's communication beacon with a map to his location.

Finn learns that Rey's people are being "kept safe" by the Caretaker Array, the advanced technology that brought them there. It was set up by a powerful race that has oppressed the Jakku for generations and not allowed them to evolve their inherent abilities or even leave the planet. Reminded of his childhood in the Cardassian camps, Finn convinces Captain Organa to destroy the Array and set Jakku free from tyranny.

Now stranded 70,000 lightyears from home, Leia chooses to follow her brother into Borg space as the most direct route back to the Alpha Quadrant.
