Seeing more people, with the new chapter, be happy with Yuri's actions is so good, and I love that I see less and less "he's got a sis con".
I feel like you cannot express any kinds of strong emotions without others qualifying as a sexual thing, which is really harmful for exactly people like Yuri !
Yor raised him. It's as simple as that. Children can be very very perceptive (and at the same time innocent enough to not understand things), Yuri grew with the knowledge that his sister, who should've had a life like his, education and innocence, put all that away to raise him. Without even knowing about her assassin job. Since little, he felt he had to impress her, almost like if he was good enough, it'll prove she did good.
Often, kids put their parents on a pedestal and it can be quite brutal in teenagers years, when they realise their parents aren't that perfect. I feel like it is a very well done difference and way to show how Yor and Yuri have such a strong relation, sometimes yes, going in being codependent on each other. They both felt pressured into being the best for the other, and it is beautiful and sad to see, because everyone has a right to get angry and exchange mean words with their loved ones, it is kinda essential because often, it helps communicating (people often stop at "screaming" but lots of psys would tell you there is a second part, where you talk it out and admit your feelings, you admit you can hurt and be hurt by people you love and still be okay). These two could not even IMAGINE being angry with the other, why would they ? They were almost always just two, fighting would make both of them feel horrible and undeserving. AND I can bet you anything their parents' death made them so scared to express any negative feelings that might make them lose the only family they have left. They did not learn that sometimes it's healthy to show anger at each other, or even just resent.
Growing up with Yor as a caretaker, while being his sister, it is absolutely understandable to see how attached he is to her ! It isn't a "being in love with her" (and I will never forgive some idiots like Freud (/neg) that put adult meanings on children's views of the world, like everyone forgets children repeat what they've been told and do not, in fact, understand what adults mean by them and I wanna get in a rant because it is also harming people like Yuri, who just have massive trauma and attachement and just are more eccentric than others, like it's a bad thing????), he expresses his PLATONIC love for her in a very flamboyant way. Never understood why people shame so much others for being "different", like we all have to follow a set of rules with relations. Loving someone is different for everyone, we all have ways to show it, and resorting to call some people "sis con" is disgusting. It is like when you are friends and very affectionate, and people will assume you wanna date and ???? Hugs and kisses aren't exclusive to romance ??? Just because you feel like you'd only kiss and hug publicly your partner, doesn't mean everyone is like that ???
Yuri only had Yor for so long, probably never trusted anyone more than her, he feels like he owes her his LIFE. (It reminds me a bit of twins behaviour and that's a whole other thing but also in the ranks of "let people express intense feelings without shaming them")
If you remember, from the very few first chapters, Yuri is actually the one saying Yor should have a partner, so immediately, it destroys this weird romance thing. And the fact he is upset at Loid (and Anya) ? It's a childish part of him, not wanting to "lose" his sister. He is afraid she will love them as family more than him. He is afraid to be alone. He wants her to be happy and he is very protective, even more with his particular job, so it is no surprise that he probably wanted to choose her partner and inspect everything of their lives to be sure it was the one.
It approaches the realm of "not healthy", but again, this whole manga is about how people go on with their lives after huge traumatic experiences. It is reassuring to have the control on things, even if you KNOW it's not healthy, and Yuri is probably in this place. He wants Yor happy BUT he feels like she's going to forget him AND he feels like he has to fix things because that's what he does.
Please remind yourselves that we all are nuanced creatures. Nothing is one way or the other, there are pleeenty of zones in the middle that aren't "you're a bad person". I think Spy X Family is amazing in the sense that it helps a lot seeing and accepting this balance that is in our everyday lives.
Yor kills people. Yor wants to feel "normal" and hates herself for being "weird".
Loid wears a mask every days. Loid feels like he was responsible for the death of his parents and he probably hates his "real self" so much that he prefers pretending he's no one instead of seeing himself in the mirror (and potentially coming to terms with the fact that it wasn't his fault)
Yuri... Yuri has a hard time trusting people. Both from his childhood and the job he has, everything taught him to be wary, that anything could harm him and his sister.
In this chapter, he is slowly warming up to Loid, which I find beautiful, not just for Yor, but Yuri himself.
He actually starts to respecting Loid and works with him AND THANK HIM AND BUMPS THEIR WRISTS ??? It is SUCH a nice thing to see, himself opening up to a stranger (because he doesn't know Loid enough still, and I find it very understandable he has a hard time trusting someone that suddenly married his sister, we often forget he is in a job that is very much about distrusting people) and not revert immediately to his hateful side.
Love seeing adult characters learning, being able to slowly change things and let others stay in a healthy way.
He will always love his sister a great deal because she has always been a great deal to him. Siblings can be very protective of one another, and I cannot imagine in their situation, the possessiveness must increase, if just born from the desire to keep the other safe.
Anywaaays I loved this chapter so much and reading many people do character analysis on Yuri is so refreshing and mine must be all over the place and I am so sure I forgot many stuff but I wanted to rant a bit.
