                 He can argue all he wants, but she finally slams the glass down on the table, splashing the water over the edge. “Goddamnit, Steve, STOP talking. You are not going alone.” Echo doesn’t mean to shout, but nothing else will get through to him. “I am so sick of you thinking you have to play martyr all the time. I made a promise -- to you -- that we would be there ‘til the end. ACCEPT it.”

It’s getting SO OLD knowing the responses of her parents when Steve picks her up on a ‘date night’, so Echo’s decided to cut out the middle man personally. (Is he a good man? Absolutely. Is he going to grow? ...Ma, ask that question again and you’re gonna be real sorry.) Steve Rogers is worth four times the weight than he’s currently sitting at, perhaps even more, and she refuses to make him go through the awkward dinners with her parents before the dance begins. He deserves better; he’s always deserved better.

So she’ll suffer through these ridiculous heels and a pale yellow dress as she waits as the edge of the venue, fingers fidgeting with the fabric until she sees him -- and Bucky, obviously, with a new girl in tow. It truly would kill him for some consistency. Echo perks up at the three of them, though she keeps it at bay until Bucky gives an all-knowing nod and leaves them in peace. “---it was so much easier to meet you here, I’m so sorry for the short notice.”

A pause. With a once over, the young woman brightens. “Is that a new suit, Rogers? It looks real sharp on you.”
