“I think it’s a great idea.” Tai Jun said, smiling behind book he was reading.
“You would.” She huffed as she grabbed another report from the pile sitting next to her.
It was Lin’s night off, a gift she had given him on their wedding day - a guarantee signed and promised on official presidential letterhead that she would get one night off a week. Six months since their wedding and she could easily say that it had not been a hard sacrifice. Not when dinner was that good, the wine even better, and there was the warm body of her husband to cuddle against.
Tai closed his book, wrapped an arm around her and settled back into the sofa cushions. Lin snuggled closer and flipped over the report she had been reading.
“Do they not teach spelling these days?” She said, frowning. “I am going to have to have a serious talk with the Academy instructors. This is ridiculous.”
“I thought this was supposed to be your night off. No paperwork.”
“I wouldn’t have had to read these reports at home if Tenzin had just left me alone this afternoon. But no, he had to come in and waste my time with that ridiculous request.” Lin tossed the offending document onto a nearby pile of paperwork and sighed. “I do not know why I let people rope me into things.”
Tai kissed the top of her head. “Because you are actually a kind and caring woman with a really big heart despite the fact you want everyone to believe that you are the grumpiest hardass on the planet.”
“Kind and caring doesn’t inspire fear in criminals. And in junior officers.”
“That’s the woman I married. Inspiring fear wherever she goes.” He chuckled. “Ming said it was Rei’s class that was going on the field trip and she has been talking about it non-stop. You’ll have a great time.”
“Tenzin said the same thing except I believe he used the word fun.”
