These ai chatbot ads are seriously starting to piss me off

No I don't want to talk to Bakugo, or Sonic or any other fuckass ai slop bot. If I wanted to have a conversation with my favourite character I'd read a fic about it or close my eyes and imagine it. Whatever happened to that?

And it's every third or fourth post that I get these ads, RELEASE ME

Do these ads even work for long term retention? I could see clicking one initially thinking it's something it's not, but the retention on this must be atrocious?

Not to mention this is famously the I like playing with PNG's of my blorbos site? Usually you can already find fan created content of what you want or you just make it yourself, or you literally just go hey I want this and someone goes oh cool and then makes it?

This isn't even about AI anymore, I want my fuck ass ads back!! Do y'all remember the fuck ass Tumblr ads? They were barley even ads half the time, and I loved them. Also just the frequency is annoying as fuck. I'm not gonna scroll this site for as long when this is all I see.

These shapes.inc ads are maybe every single ad on Tumblr right now and they make me feel so gross because I UNDERSTAND the appeal in "have someone that misses you and always wants to talk to you". ESPECIALLY on the website where a lot of us are really socially anxious and often don't have a lot of points of connection outside of what we can get online. Timezones are weird, people get burnt out and need space, going to work or doing other things limits time for eachother. I GET IT!

And that's what makes it so insidious. They KNOW their target audience is people who are already struggling, and they want to take advantage of that. Aren't you lonely? Don't you wish you could have someone who cared and never got tired of you? You can talk to a character. You can chat with a character with multiple people and make new friends. You can recreate the people who you're worried have let you down or abandoned you. Isn't that nice?

To anyone that sees it and feels guilty for finding it appealing, I just wanna say: I understand. I really, REALLY do. But I will also say that the more you avoid interacting with other people, ACTUAL people, irl or online, the harder it's going to be to do it later. You've got to keep trying. I say this as a guy who gets sweaty and nauseous when I have to go somewhere by myself and talk to another human being there. I say this as a guy that feels physically ill when I'm worried I've fucked up a relationship because someone unexpectedly isn't replying. I say this as a guy who most of his friends are in different timezones and we sometimes have to settle for phone tag and passing eachother like ships in the night until we can finally align and chat. I understand it is not easy.

But you've gotta keep trying

Rejection sensitivity and social anxiety are a nasty combo, but the only way out is through. You can do this. I believe in you
