Not a fan of the longer sauna/bath but the protein pellets and clean tank afterwards make it worthwhile (just in this case).

So I Sadly picked up some guppies from a friend with ich and put them in a ten gal. The poor guys did not make it, as I think they were to far gone already. I had them in a really nice ten gal that I would like to use for my betta since he deserves a nice big tank. But I want to make sure it is safe for him. Like I want that damn parasite deader than dead and completely gone. I’ve heard of the 10% bleach method as long as you do lots of  rinsing, soaking, and air drying. Anyone have any better ideas? Because I do not want to repeat.
Fishblr people, how do you do water changes with small fish and slow swimmers? I don't currently have any of these fish, just a goldie, but I'm considering getting a betta and trying some shrimp as well once Fin is upgraded to his adult tank (he's a year old comet currently in a 10 gallon and will be moving into my beardie's old 55 once he gets moved into the 4x2 I'm building)
However, my brother had an unfortunate accident with his betta, killing it when it was sucked into his siphon during a water change. Should you just forego the siphon and use a cup instead? Or would it be possible to attach a small-holed mesh to the end of the siphon perhaps? Even this seems impossible with shrimp though.
I'm just curious about how you keep the substrate clean without a siphon and whatnot, so I'd love to hear about others' methods!
First deep clean happened yesterday! I didn’t have anything better than a thoroughly cleaned out washing-up bowl to put him into while I was cleaning out his tank good n proper on the floor, but he was so well behaved and I kept a proper eye on him to make sure he stayed there in his leaves.
I also handled him for the FIRST time as a result of this!! I took him out of the tank carefully and gently once all furniture had been removed, and he allowed me to handwalk him for about 30 seconds before I placed him in the bucket. I definitely didn’t handle him for that long when putting him back in, and just picked him up and let him hop right back in.
I didn’t want to handle him more than that because I realised he was in shed, but this let me get a good look at him to make sure it was all well and healthy. Hopefully this’ll prove a good experience for future handling and trust, as he didn’t drop his tail, attempt to bite, or fling himself off my hand until the very end into his tank.
Tank cleaning day! Which means geckos in the bowl for temporary keep. I put in all their moist hides because they are all starting to pale out. Valteon is already beginning his shed. Notice his head color is different from his body? The skin on the head is usually the last to lift with my geckos.
Tanks are all clean and lovely. A little bare of decor as I usually do when they shed. The plastic containers are purely for their shedding process and not something I usually keep in there with them. Happy geckos today!
