The Muffuletta sandwich is a classic Italian-American creation originating from New Orleans. It's characterized by its round loaf of bread filled with layers of cured meats, cheeses, and a tangy olive salad.
Ingredients: 1 round loaf Italian bread. 1/4 cup olive oil. 1/4 cup red wine vinegar. 1 cup chopped mixed olives. 1/2 cup chopped roasted red peppers. 1/4 cup chopped pepperoncini. 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley. 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano. 1/4 teaspoon dried basil. 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder. 8 slices Genoa salami. 8 slices ham. 8 slices provolone cheese.
Instructions: Take off the bread loaf's top and hollow out the inside. Olive oil, red wine vinegar, pepperoncini, parsley, oregano, basil, and garlic powder should all be mixed together in a bowl. Spread half of the olive mix inside the loaf of bread. Put salami, ham, and provolone cheese in the bread one on top of the other. Add the rest of the olive mixture on top. Put the top back on the loaf of bread and press down hard. The sandwich should be tightly wrapped in plastic wrap and put in the fridge for at least an hour or overnight. Cut it into wedges and serve.
