Tathata - ‘suchness’ is an important buddhist teaching, equally important to sunyata - 'emptiness’, unfortunately it isn’t as popular amongst westerners.
Concepts, names, values, judgments, opinions, feelings, ideas and other mental phenomena exist only within our minds, or in our heads! They are personal and individual - two people may look at the same object and yet have very different feelings and ideas. These mental phenomena exist only within the mind and have no bearing on the external world. They are therefore, substanceless, weightless, meaningless, vanity, or to use the buddhist term, they are empty! The external world however isn’t emptiness, it really does exist. The universe is not a hologram, illusion or matrix. The universe exist for sure, but in truth without the names, concepts and other mental phenomena that we like to project on it. In truth the universe 'is what is it’. The universe is as such - suchness. It is simply That.

The attitude of suchness is: accept it – and say to yourself, “Such is the way of the…

The word suchness is as important in Buddhism as God is in other religions. The Buddhist word for suchness is tathata. It means, “Seeing things…

Summer Picnics
I have always been touched by human beings having picnics, as if by the act of eating in a beautiful place, they are somehow unified with it. These paintings are all from the 80s and 90s, they have all vanished into the great reality matrix, along with the events they portrayed. The last 2 have been made into cards published by https://cannsdownpress.co.uk
