Hunter in Decommissioned

In Decommissioned (Season 1 Ep6) we don’t see Hunter using his trademark knife. Almost as if he has a bet with his brothers that he can complete a mission without one 😀. And we get a lot of Hunter in action in this episode. He battle-dances through the scores of police droids, double-wields blasters and even demonstrates a highly unconventional use of a grappling hook as an instrument of destruction.

A great perspective of Hunter with the grappling hook, BTW.

We, fans, often like to tease that Hunter intellectually is not in the same league as Tech and Crosshair (we love Sergeant for other things!), and him typing with one finger is canon. However, during the fight he can think on his feet and come up with no less unorthodox and risky solutions than Tech. The scene when Omega calls for help and Hunter at once gets rid of the pursuing droids by connecting his grappling hook to the conveyor belt and takes down the support posts is very, very much underappreciated. ❤ ️

TBB Rewatch Day 14: S2E9 “The Crossing” and S2E10 “Retrieval”

Much like “The Outpost,” “The Crossing” holds such a special place in my heart. I remember first watching and NOT expecting that conversation between Omega and Tech. The writers easily could’ve had Tech say something nerdy or be like “ah I finally get what you mean omega” and just like that, problem solved.

But no. They chose to take a mature approach and had a deep, meaningful conversation between the characters. It’s a beautiful moment for Tech and it’s probably my favorite scene with him. This moment is TBB at its best. Sure the fighting is cool, but letting us see deeper into these characters is so much more impacting imo.

As for “Retrieval,” it’s a pretty enjoyable episode that gives Omega more perspective of the world around her. I also love the theme of “home” having a different meaning for each character. For the Batch, it’s the Marauder and for Benni, it’s working as an Ipisum miner.

You weren’t loyal to me.

Oh, but they were. That’s why they never questioned you, they know how loyal you are, how you pride yourself in that, and never thought you’d actually leave. That’s why they never went after you, they just couldn’t believe you’d really left, left them, they didn’t know how to search for somebody who made it clear he didn’t want to be found. They were loyal, they just never expected you not to be.

I was one of you.

They know. They remember, and how couldn’t they, when they are not the same without you, they don’t see things the way they did with you standing next to them. They lost their balance the day they lost you, there is an empty space now where you once were and it’s just not the same anymore, not without you.

You still are. A brother, a friend. You are standing in front of them, and they’d take you back in a second, you need only ask.

You may have forgotten, but I haven’t.

Believe it, they can’t either. They just can’t wrap their minds around the fact that you’re not there anymore, that you chose to leave them, after everything you’ve been through together. They never looked for you because they didn’t know it was possible you didn’t want them anymore. They thought you’d forgotten, they never could.

And it’s why I’m going to give you what you never gave me: a chance.

They never gave you a chance because they didn’t think you needed it. They would never presume you’d wanted it, that you were ever even thinking of betraying them, that you needed something else other than them, than what you had together. They gave you a chance, don’t ignore it. They’re giving it now too. They’re here, aren’t they?

But you’re too proud, too stubborn, too insecure. How could they want you when you left? You can’t admit the mistake you made because you don’t think they’ll forgive you, and what then? You’d have lost your purpose, you’d be left alone, again. The kind of loneliness you never knew existed, the one you felt for the first time when you left them, only it would be worse because you’d know they don’t want you back this time.

You can’t bear to hear their refusal, which is why you prefer to have this on your own terms, you won’t beg, you want them to beg. Beg to join you, beg for you to come back.

Just a bit more, and maybe you’ll yield.

You want to feel that they’d missed you, and to be able to have someone watch your back again, someone to care enough for you to risk defending you. You weren’t made to be on your own, not like this, and you know it.

But you won’t break, why won’t you break?

Wait. Tech is the one who taught Hera how to scramble the Ghost's signature? I didn't catch that before

I really appreciate how the show took a few episodes (the episides where they rescued a senator and Tech hurt his leg) to show the Separatist worlds after the Empire took over. They were the "bad guys" during the Clone Wars, but that's only because the show was from the Republic's POV. With the Empire subjugating the entire galaxy, those two sides don't exist anymore. The Empire certainly doesn't see the difference.
