One of the Many problems I have with The Death And The End by Dan Abnett has to be the character assassination it gives Lorgar. It is maybe one of the most on the head, counterintuitive writing I have ever read, to the point I am halfway to believing he made a checklist of things to undo that were shown in First Heretic, Auralian, Bearer Of The Word and most importantly; Betrayer.

It's Maddening. He really has him say "I can trust Erebus :)" after he had an argument with Erebus, where he specifically stated he knew he wasn't a power hungry manipulator. Where he denied his request and Then attempted to make him see, let's check.... Oh. That sometimes you couldn't listen to the Gods whispers about fate and had to try and see things with your own eyes. And what's he doing in The Death And The End? ON THE PROPHECY PLANET TRYING TO SEE THE FUTURE??????? Ludicrously bad direction. That takes away from SO much of the intrigue of Lorgar trying to see a path for man and the Gods to live together, while not being their slaves. He's shown to disobey their orders for his own vindication and to try to help the war without being caught up on infighting. He even is shown to grow sympathetic to his most volatile brother and saves him. And then Dan Abnett completely obliterates all complexity by having him be a mindless chaos thrall led like a lamb by someone he outgrew.

Oh, yeah, and shout out to Dan Abnett having his immortal Catholic character lecture a woman blinded, killed, and then resurrected by the gods she believed in, about FAITH. What. What. What. What the fuck. Are you on about. The book is Maybe one ofnthe most painful things I've had the displeasure of reading. Shout out to: Cutting to hold people reading books in a library in the middle of combat scenes, using Only Metaphors to describe multiple combat scenes so I have litterally no idea what anything looks like, having the Dark Angels beat an army of the Death Guard on top of... Of .... A MOUNTAIN??? THEIR LEGION WAS DOING THAT SHIT BEFORE THEY EVEN BECAME SPACE MARINES??? That's like having a world eater legion lose 1v1 gladiator combat with the Salamanders or having The Night Lords beat The Imperial Fists at building a defensive wall. I'm almost sure Dan didn't even realize that thats something the Death Guard would excel at and have multiple niche strategies building off of, because he just has them march into the gunfire mindlessly??? AND THAT KILLS THEM EASILY? The Nurgle empowered legion when the warp is bleeding in like nothing before????

Shout out to Malcador talking abt the Emperor so intimately though, calling him My King was at least a sweet touch.
