Today, I had a student get seriously upset with me because I politely asked her to log off of her Fortnite game during class, after she was shouting loudly to her teammates during battle in her microphone. Students regularly try to take phone calls while I’m teaching or while they are supposed to be working independently. This morning, another student, with autism, was hyperventilating and I was working on helping him calm, and another student began demanding my attention, and when I told her I would be happy to help her in a moment but that I needed to help someone else right now, she screamed that I’m a bitch and threw something, which definitely didn’t help calm my other student. When I told another student that, no, I wasn’t willing to drive her to go get a new tattoo after school, because I don’t drive students anywhere since it is a liability for me, I was told I clearly don’t care about my students. Yesterday, student I didn’t know physically shoved me aside to grab supplies (which I paid for and owned personally) off my desk and when I said they weren’t for student use, he told me everything in the school was for student use, and it didn’t matter that I wasn’t even his teacher, and that teachers are also for student use. I was yelled at all weekend via email from a parent who said me making her aware that her child was failing and may need some help means that I have it out for her son, and she doesn’t care that I’m his favorite teacher because apparently he just doesn’t understand that I hate him. Remember when schools locked down and parents took to social media in waves to say how much they appreciate teachers and wish they had them again, because teaching their own kids is hard? And then the minute we reopened, they returned to the tried and true method of blaming teachers for everything that has ever happened? I’m a little tired, guys.
