When your coworkers expect you to pick up their slack
When someone tells me they don’t use the Oxford comma
Teachers the week before a holiday
When I begrudgingly accept that I’ll spend most of Fall Break catching up on work
When students complain about having to read for a test
Sleep deprivation, my old friend.
Staying up late to catch up on grading (haha! just kidding, but I should've done), planning, and constructing post-PARCC work. This better be worth it.
I have an interview on Monday and I have to give a 20-minute demo lesson on any topic of my choice... what should it be?
So I think my first lesson on Speak went really well!
The boys were sort of giggly when they first saw the word "sex," but we were talking about rape and sexual assault, and their laughs quickly died.
We then looked at a whole bunch of statistics about sexual assault, rape, depression, suicide, and bullying. They were all shocked at how prevalent all of these things were--and I think it made the topic seem much more real to them, because last week they had questioned why they had to read this book.
One of the boys, who recently moved here from Korea, didn't know what rape was, and when I explained it to him, his response was, "That's horrible!! Why would anyone do that?!"
