20.) What are your general thoughts about newer magical traditions such as pop culture spells, and technowitchery?

If they work for you, I’m all for them.  I personally am currently using technological divination whenever I read from the Rider-Waite deck, since I do not have a physical copy.

My personal best guess is that you simply have to do what you can realistically invest the most personal energy/belief into.  If modern witchcraft techniques resonate with you better than traditional ones, due to your familiarity and identification with those sources, do it.  If the tradition and “ancient practices” strike a better chord with you, do that.

FIVE OF SWORDS EIGHT OF SWORDS REVERSED THE EMPRESS THREE OF SWORDS

What I read it to mean: If you’re going to make this work, you need to work hard and avoid resting on your laurels.  Even still, expect an unpleasant outcome.

What the Guidebook says:

The Five of Swords is a card of negative ambition.  It represents trying to force things to work in your favor, which typically results in isolation.  It brings hollow victories.

The Reversed Eight of Swords represents an openness to new ways of seeing the world.  It encourages new perspectives and new patterns of behavior.

The Empress represents femininity, good fortune, and nurturing energies.  It draws from the Earth, creative forces, and positive connection with the world at large.

The Three of Swords represents rejection, isolation, and grief.

Well... shit.  I guess if you ask a stupid question, you’ll get called stupid.  The cards say I should try something new, I suppose.  Which sucks, because I was really hoping to get decent answers from my experiment.  I had positive hopes for that sigil’s effectiveness.

Oh well.  The cards are right, I guess.  The harder you try to pull an answer out of the masses, the more you wind up isolating yourself.  Better a new approach than a Pyrrhic victory.

Divination Notes, 7/23/17

I don’t know how to grade this one, to be honest.  The tarot draw wasn’t so much a prediction as it was an offering of advice, which means it is completely nonsense to judge it in terms of its accuracy.

SEVEN OF SWORDS

What I read it to mean: You’re going be tempted to try and be a sneaky shit in the time yet to come.

What the Guidebook says:

Deception, betrayal

Use caution when attempting to be cunning or underhanded

You may be tempted to be sneaky, but don’t be - operate above-board

You may need to exercise caution so as not to be caught in another’s underhanded act

Well, I guess this card is actually more of an exhortation to remain direct and clear in my actions than a suggestion that there’s any reason to do anything underhanded.  Admittedly, I’m an avoidant sort of person who has a tough couple days ahead - so I can certainly use the cheering on.

Divination Notes, 7/20/17

Tarot knocked it out of the park today.  Had to once again go deal with my parents for financial reasons, which meant subordinating myself to their interests and being the “dancing monkey” for rent money.

Still, I wasn’t asked to do anything humiliating or degrading.  I just find the entire exercise itself degrading.  I consider that justified as a “3 out of 6.”

I’m liking the use of the die as a severity indicator.  I believe that will stay as a part of my divination practice.  If nothing else, it satisfies my “RPG nerd” senses.

Left-hand card, representing requester: JUDGMENT, 1 Right-hand card, representing other: EMPEROR, 5 Center card, representing combination: QUEEN OF PENTACLES, 5 

What I read it to mean: You are having a little trouble dealing with the strong forceful nature of the other, but your future is prosperous.

What the Guidebook says:

The Requester has attained some epiphany in their life, but needs to take whatever time they require to prepare for the journey ahead as they pursue the things revealed to them.  Decisions may need to be made.

The Other is a “father figure,” a strong protector, with powerful dominant energy and a willingness to forcefully act to ensure what needs to be done is done for the greater good.  The Emperor reflects status, respect, and ambition.

The Combination is a strong domestic energy, with nurturing and support.  It suggests success, but encourages compassion, a calm approach, and bringing balance to your life.  If you see a simple, practical solution to manifesting your earlier epiphanies... that may be your answer.

THE DEVIL

What I read it to mean: I’m going to have to deal with my mother today, and it is not going to be particularly pleasant.  On the other hand, it’s not going to be absolutely terrible either.

What the Guidebook says:

Bondage, addiction, materialism

Representative of personal issues that keep us bound to poor life choices

A feeling of need drives you to actions you perceive as morally improper

Very, very interesting.  I like this pairing of the die for severity with the card for situation.  I will see how this turns out in the course of the day, but with this draw I have some apprehension about what is to come.

29 - The Lady 30 - The Lilies

What I read it to mean: I don’t actually know.  I have no familiarity with Lenormand cards, but my wife recommended them as having a greater range of concrete answers over tarot.  This is my first experience with them.  My only presumption is that, given the two card “types,” this is possibly good.

What the Guidebook says:

A mature woman, experienced, established

...Okay?  I don’t know.  This gives me effectively nothing to work from, so I guess we’ll just see what it means tomorrow.
