Double Dragon (GB)

Double Dragon (Technōs Japan, 1987)
Developed/Published by: Technōs Japan (Published by Taito in North America.) Released: 22/04/1987 Completed: 12/03/2026 Completion: Finished it (no need for saving until that ridiculous final level.)
This essay on Double Dragon follows last week’s on Nekketsu Kōha Kunio-Kun as a tribute to the recently departed Yoshihisa Kishimoto, even though, to be honest, I’m pretty hard on it.

'Nekketsu Koukou Dodgeball-bu'
[FC] [JAPAN] [MAGAZINE] [1988]
"The idea of a dodge ball game was envisioned by Hiroshi Sato (who worked at Taito at the time). Prior to development, the staff at Technōs, including the president, decided to open a dodge ball tournament at Shinjuku West Exit Park. The game was completed in five months by a team of six to seven people, including Sato, Kishimoto and M. Nomura, who programmed the game's AI. The game takes the rules of real dodge ball and makes changes to them in order to make the game competitive and violent instead of recreational. According to Yoshida, in the Famicom version each character was given stats and Power Shots because the arcade version was difficult (which was made to make gameplay short and force players to insert quarters into the game). The short timer of each match combined with the replacement players in the arcade version and the fact that only the leader could perform Power Shots (and if eliminated, the player was at a disadvantage) required that adjustments be made for the console version. These changes led to each team having their own strategies, strengths and weaknesses. This was also the first Famicom Kunio-kun game with super-deformed characters, which became a standard of the series since." ~Kunio-kun Wiki

Super Technos World: River City & Technos Arcade Classics releases today digitally for the PS5, Switch and Steam.
Get ready for a full playthough, longplay of both the Royal Rumble Battle Royal and Saturday Nights Main Event Tag Match in this video at the end of it we also show the whole attract run which shows all the wrestlers and their signature moves. This is back when WWE was still called WWF before the panda bear gave them the legal smackdown. Why they didn't just flip the name to something like FWW or WFW, I'll never know.
Is WWF WrestleFest the best wrestling arcade game ever made? I think for many it will be and while WWF Royal Rumble in 2000 from Yuke's was a great game it doesn't quite match WrestleFest. Capcom Saturday Night Slam Masters is the other real content for the best arcade Wrestler. With Fire Pro Returns World the best wrestling game on the market at present. With the recent passing of Hulk Hogan it was time we finally covered this game. Sadly only four of the wrestlers featured in this title are still with us.
