I waited too long to blog and now I have too much to update!! ACK!
Let’s start with Sunday’s adventure to Busch Gardens, Williamsburg!
As you might recall, I was worried about fitting into the seats on the rollercoasters. For reference, I weigh 215 at 5′6″ with wide hips and thick thighs. In the middle of the night before our trip I did all the googling to try to and see if other people my size had any issues fitting and learned enough to get back to sleep. I learned the parks now put a seat out front of each ride for their “larger guests” to try out before entering into the lines. Knowing this helped me drastically and as much as I was nervous to be seen trying out the seats and who would be watching I was really glad to be able to do this before waiting in line and getting denied in front of everyone else waiting.
We arrived to the park around 10:30 a.m. and was blown away by how beautiful the park was!! I loved how each area was themed by a country and thoroughly enjoyed all the details.
Now, the last time I was on a rollercoaster was at least 10 years ago and I wasn’t even sure if I’d like them any more! So, despite my fitting concerns I was also nervous if I was too old to be bounced around, turned upside down and around. Growing up my mom never went on rollercoasters because she got dizzy too easily so I thought maybe that’s what would happen to me, too. I’ve also never been to an amusement park with kids before so THAT was a different experience entirely. Each of our friend’s four kids wanted to do ride a different ride, or had to go to the bathroom, or wanted a soda, etc. It was much more stressful of an experience than I’d remembered.
The first rollercoaster we decided to go on was Tempesto, a super intense ride that lasts only about 10 seconds. I climbed into the tester seat and was thrilled to discover I fit in extremely easily! As I was getting out an older woman was walking up to test out the seat as well and as I expressed my concerns with her she reassured me that I would be able to fit into every ride in this park with no problem. !!!! The second rollercoaster was Apollo’s Chariot which the internet warned me about as not being kind to larger riders. While the tester seat was a bit more snug, I still fit inside the bucket seat easily! You can see the in-action picture above from this ride where my ponytail is also experiencing the high of the ride. I also went on the two water rides, Roman Rapids and Escape From Pompeii, both with no fitting issues whatsoever!
During the entire day I was messaging with @zerocarb trying to decide if I was going to indulge on the incredible temptations of churros, ice cream, cotton candy, pizza, pretzels and beer (Oktoberfest was happening!!!), burgers, fries and the biggest sandwiches I’ve ever seen. Unexpectedly, she kept telling me not to cheat which really bummed me out. But, she was right (ugh) and if I did cheat on keto I would regret the decision and feel extra bad about it. So, I continued to surprise myself with every keto decision I made from choosing the smokehouse sampler from France and getting a diet coke instead of a beer and not indulging in more beer with everyone else in Germany. Unfortunately, my weight decided to go up about two pounds the next two days after my good decisions and continued to stay there mocking my good choices.
All in all it was a great experience and I loved sharing the time with Kevin and his friends and their family. Definitely excited to go back again hopefully soon!
