𝗰𝗵 1. 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗹𝗱, 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗹𝗱

it was a simple text, one you almost ignored through bleary, half-asleep eyes. sunlight filtered into your room through a crack in the curtains as the heater whirred to life somewhere in the house. you debated for a bit: it could be a wrong number, spam, some fake number that was going to ask for your card information.

at the very least you could be of some help or entertainment for the morning.it was cold, it was a weekend, there was no rush to be out of bed.

a beat. you only look away for a second before your phone buzzes in a short burst in your palm.

oh, shit. evan. weird. not super weird, like 'i've been secretly watching you this entire time' weird, just how out of nowhere he got in touch. maybe, you decide, you should get out of bed. you make for the bathroom as you type, your cat mewling from down the hall and its feet padding on the floor.

you roll your eyes a bit at yourself as you put your phone down to squirt toothpaste on to your toothbrush: 'long time no see'? was that weird to say to an ex? sure, you had broken up and it had been a little rough towards the end (emphasis on 'a little'), but how do you talk to an ex again after almost 6 months of no contact?

still, it wasn't like evan hadn't been a good boyfriend. you hadn't expected much from meeting a stranger on a creepypasta forum, especially when you had only briefly looked into it from a chain mail thing your friends told you about but you had managed to hit the jackpot somehow.

you start to brush your teeth with one hand while the other pauses over the keyboard, sitting on the toilet and bringing up your feet. it had only occurred to you now how much life had happened since you two broke up. that's how uneventful the whole ordeal had been; back to your regularly scheduled program within the week.

you huff softly in amusement around your toothbrush and the now foamy paste. evan had been there in a different chapter of your life and it scratched a nostalgic itch to be rehashing that with him even if it was briefly or in not so many words. it was a chapter where you two would be on the phone until 2:00 am where you crammed and evan slept or gamed, where you survived on iced coffee and energy drinks. it was part of why you were able to make late night trips to his place despite his insistence you wait until morning. 'you're gonna crash or, worse, miss class.' he would say, his voice crackling over your phone speaker; you would hear the smile on his face.

you'd show up in your pjs with a bag of snacks, some yours and most you knew evan would like. when he'd finally open up, he would sigh at the way you offered the bag like a peace offering and neither of you could be really mad. even if you'd have to trudge back to campus in the next couple of hours. you were staring off. good times.

you finish washing up as you send your response, not necessarily meaning for that text to sound so final but you figured you and evan both had things to do. you couldn't very much spend all day catching up-

guess not. the names were familiar, two boys you almost always heard in the background of phone calls with evan. they seemed just as chaotic as him but still never let you feel like an outsider just because you were a girlfriend on your visits.

you snicker at that, leaning against your sink. how easy it had been for you two to fall into old habits. you could almost ignore how evan had suddenly become such an early riser.

you walk back to your room to sit at your desk, booting up your computer as your cat gets up to slink between your legs. you can't help smiling when you click on the first video, vinny without glasses introducing himself and the channel, what's to come for it. it was amateur, sure, as most youtube was but it was an interesting idea for a couple of fellow college age students.

it was no surprise someone like evan would have a blog like that: he was moderately on top of his health, boyishly charming, the whole 9 yards. it was good for him, even if for one reason or another other videos featured long grass fields or abandoned structures.

you look at the time on your screen, sighing softly. a trip down memory lane before breakfast wasn't something you were expecting to do today. you also knew any longer and your cat would start wreaking havoc.

you can't help a bit of familiar warmth creeping up in your chest. that was evan, the one you knew to always stay on friendly terms even when he didn't need to.

you power off your laptop and turn off your phone just as your cat meows in the doorway of your bedroom, demanding sustenance to which you only coo at it. as exs go, that wasn't unpleasant.

I KNOW I KNOW that shit was so boring but what do u want me to do, first you gotta set them up before you knock them down

i'm already having so much fun planning future chapters which will be INFINITELY more fun and where the interactive part starts so get ready for that ;3
