An Awesome Alternative to Textmate on Windows , Linux and OS X

So I have been a massive Mac fan now for a number of years , I really do think that they are the best platform to use as a web developer. Unfortunately my Mac is a little old now and due to financial constraints I can't afford to replace it so for the time been I am using a PC , mainly with Ubuntu or Windows. This means that I have been without the awesome Textmate. I have tried a large number of development platforms including Netbeans which is the best so far , Aptana and Notepad++. They are all ok but non of them came close to Textmate, they all felt like a compromise.

Then one day when looking at some blogs on web development and wordpress I came across Sublime Text 2. Sublime Text 2 (currently only in Beta) is Textmate for Windows , Linux and OS X. I downloaded it , installed some plug-ins useful for web work and was bowled over. It felt as comfortable as Textmate , without the downsides I felt I got from Netbeans, I really had began to feel that I was losing my touch and was relying on the IDE far too much.

I like the features that Sublime Text 2 had , that was been able to click to chase code around , nice syntax highlighting and bracket checking. At the same time I felt that it didn't interfere with what I was doing. For me it is not good enough just to know how to do something , but why you do it that way, what the code is actually doing , what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing it that way. This means that in my opinion I am a better developer because I can understand what is going on.

I highly recommend that you go check it out , it is totally Free to evaluate for as long as you need but if you want to actually use it to do work you should really buy a licensee, which isn't that expensive.
