At some point during her time with the Hunt, Thalia is flung to Ogygia. She tumbles through the air, and crashes into a tree. Somehow she manages to cling to a branch, keeping herself from hitting the ground. Calypso heard her hit the tree, and the long line of curses after. She went to go investigate, annoyed at her luck. She didn’t want another boy, they were idiots and she hated them. Mostly because she had been forced to love them to leave her. She saw Thalia, in her punk tshirt and ripped black jeans. She’d managed to get her legs around the branch, and was clinging to it as a baby clings to its mother. The first thing Calypso did was laugh. That made Thalia look down, and realise that she really wasn’t that far off the ground anyway. She laughed too, and their laughs mingled together. With much difficulty, Thalia made it down the tree, until she stood beside Calypso. She introduced herself as Thalia, a Hunter of Artemis. Calypso nodded. Thalia knew who she was, and so she felt no need to explain. She offered a nights rest, and Thalia gladly accepted it. That night, Calypso was happier than most first nights. The gods had been kind and heeded her wishes. They had not brought her a boy, but a girl instead.
One night turned into two, two into four, four into eight. They talked late into the nights, and slept late into the morning. Until one night; Calypso asked about Hunters. Thalia nodded and explained, and talked on end about her sisters. She told Calypso of the losses they had suffered, but also the victories they had taken. She spoke late into the night, when the stars glowed through the night sky and sand began to get under their clothes. The waves punctuated Thalia’s speech. Calypso was slightly awestruck. She’d heard of the Hunters, but never like this, never this way. She liked it.
“Can you take me to them?” She asked, voice hopeful. Perhaps she would be able to break free from her prison and live with Thalia.
“Probably,” Thalia replied, looking to the stars in the sky. She traced the Huntress with her eyes, remembering bravery. And so Thalia told Calypso the oath. Calypso recited it, her voice shaking a little. She was scared. One day, she might run into one of her suitors, but finally have the ability to turn him down. She was excited. The oath was spoken, and they waited in a hush. Even the sea seemed to fall silent. A silvery glow appeared, heralding Artemis’ arrival.
More words were traded, and before she knew it, Calypso was swept off her feet. By Thalia, as she lifted Calypso up. It felt safe and warm in her arms. Calypso never wanted to leave. Calypso looked up at Thalia, into her stormy eyes. They seemed cleared than before.
“Thank you for saving me, Thalia Grace.”
