Affini Survival Guide
I'm an independent sophont in the Affini compact. I've been surviving for MONTHS based on a little criteria of rules that I follow!
Never. Ever. Under ANY circumstance. Interact with an Affini in unnecessary ways. I've been avoiding Affini districts like the plague. I've never looked at an Affini for more than a few seconds. If one strikes up a conversation with you, make it curt and polite. Excuse yourself as soon as possible.
Avoid J-cafes. This is how they get you, by hooking you up on their drugs.
Get as many non-electronic locks for your hab. I have six. This way, your Hab AI won't be able to unlock your door for a "wellness check" from the Affini.
If you get any "notice of intent", ignore it. I've never had any as far as I'm aware, but they can't do anything without your approval.
Try your best to shrug off any positive feelings in relation to their touches. They feel good. That's the point. They want to get you.
Any intrusive thoughts about wanting to be owned by the Affini are just that. Intrusive thoughts. You don't want that. I don't want that, and I've had elaborate intrusive thoughts about what life would be like as a floret.
Try to ignore any dreams you've had about the Affini, and KEEP THEM SECRET.
Remind yourself that the hard road is always better. To keep your independence you MUST NOT SUBMIT. They are always looking for weaknesses to exploit. Never show them.
