Me sorprendía mucho el otro día en la red social mi buen amigo Miguelo (Smart Dress, The Drejas) anunciándome que hay gente que prefiere a The High Numbers, el inmediato previo a The Who, a los propios The Who. Le contesté que están pasando cosas muy raras y que tendremos cuartas elecciones. También de guasa estuve por decirle que esos no tienen ni idea, y que los que molan de verdad son The Detours, otra encarnación anterior de la banda de Pete Townshend de la que no han llegado grabaciones vivas hasta nuestros días, por lo que el farol sería más que evidente.

Aunque creo que los Who crearon sin ninguna clase de dudas algo muy superior a lo de High Numbers - lo mismo Beatles respecto a The Quarrymen o Moody Blues mk2 respecto a M.B. mk1- he topado con esta versión instrumental del “Country Line Special” de Cyril Davies y, ojo, que es algo muy, muy serio. Son como varias canciones en una de 6 minutos y pico, y hay ahí apuntadas unas cuantas cosas posteriores de los Who (”My Generation”, ”Happy Jack”, incluso “Tommy”). Y que bien sopla la armónica Roger Daltrey a partir de 3´ 53″. Que buenos eran ya los tíos en aquel 1964.

My first post in ages..... Here’s a rare nugget from and old cassette - The Detours doing their original unreleased song “Amoeba” later recorded and released by the Adolescents. I assume this was recorded after 1977 when they formed and prior to 1980 when Rikk Agnew and Casey Royer, both former Detours joined the Adolescents. But I can’t say for certainty as the Detours continued on without Agnew and Royer and could have recorded this after they left and before I recorded it off the radio sometime in 1981 I believe. Enjoy this in all its lo-fi glory.
