Information
Gentile Bellini 1478-79
Ritratto del Doge Giovanni Mocenigo
Gentile Bellini was the official portrait painter for the doges of Venice, the highest elected official (sometimes mistranslated as duke). He also regularly went to paint in the Ottoman Empire, doing a portrait of their sultan Mehmet II amongst other works. He introduced techniques from Constantinople to Europe, and vice versa, in kind of a regular official cultural exchange type program.

Random headcanon: XI once built a model of K9 (the Mk IX) which he solely referred to as The Doge. It had googly eyes, a seemingly broken jaw, lopsided wheels and its main function was to follow someone around and provide sound effects or leitmotifs to their everyday tasks. It was programmed to respond to such phrases as ‘shut up’ and ‘go away’ with an entirely random and often useless factoid. It was last spotted tailing X, singing Donna Summers’ ‘Hot Stuff’, and has not been seen again.
