Lately, I felt like my drawing skills had become a little stagnant, so I decided it was time to go back to the basics.

While scrolling through Instagram, I came across a small online class called Paws and Poses. The course is all about drawing, illustration, and creating characters using cats, and I thought, “Why not?”Even though it’s geared more toward beginners and intermediate artists, I don’t think it’s ever a bad idea to revisit the fundamentals. Sometimes a refresher is exactly what you need.

These are some of my studies from the first module, which focused on the basics of drawing cats. 🐱

For this series, I wanted to explore those ideas through Xander and Zane’s relationship.

I’ve always loved centaurs. 🦄✨

One of my favorite parts of Fantasia was the centaur segment, and growing up around horses probably made me even more inclined to love them. Between the mythology, fantasy, and my family’s horses, it was probably inevitable that I’d end up drawing a few of my own.

Originally this wasn’t even a nekomimi character.

Somewhere along the way she grew cat ears and a tail, and honestly I think it was the right choice.
