Just to be clear I firmly stand by the Grisha as a persecuted group that got so much shit for centuries and they deserve every good and kind thing in the world.

Just because they are "privileged" as Bardugo calls them (which means to have special rights and immunity because of your rank) didn't stop the King from sexually assaulting Genya, drüskelle from killing them or being kidnapped and subjected to experiments. They had food on their table and a roof above their head which is what every human being should have but they were never treated as human beings or equals which is what they desired the most.

It's one thing to be "privileged" and another to being fed and the next minute you get either spit on by Ravkans or killed by witchhunters. That's not privilege. That's some superficial alliance that can get them killed any day.

It genuinely frustrates me when people ship character’s with their abuser.

Particularly when the character’s entire storyline is about escaping an abusive relationship.

Particularly when the abusive relationship was founded on grooming.

Particular when the ship only exists because the reader thinks the abuser is hot, and is using the protagonist as a self-insert.

I don’t attack people over what they ship, I never have and I never will, you can ship those kind of fictional ships if you want, no, seriously, go ahead, I won’t stop or judge you, but I am asking you to be aware. Be aware that they’re unhealthy. Be aware that the ship you like was never going to be “endgame” by the author. Be aware that you have no right to bully or belittle anyone who doesn’t ship what you ship, particularly if it’s abusive. Just be aware. That’s all.

feel like the book focused more on finding a way for Mal and Alina's romance to work, not on fixing the state of Ravka.

100% agree with this. This is a quote from LB herself where she pretty much admits that it was M*lina she cared about in the books:

This has always been the story of two refugees—orphans who the world views as expendable, the impact they have on the future of their country, and the cost that war exacts from them both.

It seems from this quote that LB was focused on writing a story about two down trodden orphans and she kept trying to push this love story and make it the driving force behind the trilogy. There were a few problems though, one being that the two characters, Alina and M*l weren't particularly likeable, in fact M*l was really rather an awful character who treated Alina badly which makes it kind of hard to root for them, it was painfully obvious that they did not work as a romantic pairing and to be honest, this is my own opinion, but reading their scenes ground on me like sandpaper particularly in the second book. On top of that there was a bigger issue at hand which you have mentioned, the state of Ravka. This is a country that is war torn and divided, people are dying everyday in battle or from starvation etc, there's the grisha who are killed, burned, experimented on and enslaved and just a general feeling of hopelessness in the country. With this backdrop it makes it very hard to care about M*lina and their romance, its like I am so sorry that your crush kissed someone else Alina but you know the grisha are dying over here maybe we could focus on doing something about that?

Okay, but does anyone else think that it’s really weird that Inej would agree to kidnap a young woman and possibly sell her into slavery? I don’t understand why the show would go in this direction. Yeah, Grisha aren’t seen as fully human, but after everything Inej had been through, I would think it’s a bit antithetical to put her in a situation where the Crows would kidnap anyone, but especially a young woman. And how else would Alina be treated, besides a weapon against Ravka and treated like a prisoner or a slave. I also don’t think that Kaz would agree to something like that either or ask something like that of Inej. Sorry, I don’t buy that.
